Ken Shamrock is about 10 years older then Tito Ortiz...do you all think a younger Ken Shamrock matched up against the Tito Ortiz that he fought would have done better or do you believe that MMA is a quickly evolving sport and a few years can make a big difference and that Ortiz was just a better fighter?

depends on what kind of doses ken was on.

I don't think he beats UFC 40 Tito. A younger Ken could have beaten UFC 13 Tito, though.

you mean a younger Ken who was Roided up??

YES, if you followed MMA back then you will know that Tito ducked Ken at HW and insisted on fighting a drained and old version of Ken. He wanted nothing to do with a younger Ken at HW. Tito was deathly afraid

even in the 1st fight Ken near KO'd Tito with a punch

Ken would of beat him into living death..

Young Tito was pretty damn good considering he beat Wanderlei Silva just before his Pride Run and a (well I guess) Prime Vitor Belfort. Stole a round from beast mode Liddell as well.
I doubt Ken had anything for him in any step of his career.

There is no reality that exists where Shamrock can beat Tito

MMA in 2002 was at a whole different level than it was when Ken left in 1996. From 1997-2000, Frank Shamrock paved the way for cross training with his work with Maurice Smith. Plus, Frank taught Tito quite a few lessons directly about endurance and being well rounded in their 1999 fight.

The only way you're going to get a competitive fight out of Tito and Ken is if you take Ken's mid-2000's skill set and pair it with his mid-1990's youth. Even then, Tito still likely wins.

I don't know. He's a leg lock guy. Titos style actually aids what ken does so I don't know why he had so much trouble

I used to think so, as it is well documented that Tito wanted no part of Ken at HW and even flipped his shit when Ken came in 1 pound over in their second encounter.
Nowadays I'm not so sure. I've been rewatching a lot of old fights on fight pass and while Ken was (very) good in the day he was very limited as a fighter later on.

On the other hand he fought a masterful fight against Fujita. If I remember correctly many MMA fans "in the know" thought he was going to beat Tito easily based on that performance. So who knows. I do believe the torn ACL thing played a role but I also think he was surprised at Tito's wrestling and strength. You can see it in that first clinch at UFC 40. Ken tries to push Tito into the fence but gets reversed pretty easily. After that it's a long night for Ken though he nearly KO'd Tito with that right hand.

As another poster said who the fuck knows. I think that Tito just had Ken's number. (sad to say - I really wanted Ken to win the second and third encounters but he was so ridiculously faded back then). What's always puzzled me is that both Fujita @240 pounds and Dan Severn @260 could not move 220 pounds (at the time) Ken Shamrock even one inch but Tito took his ass down easily.

Ken was never that good.

The worst version of Tito finishes the best version of Ken inside 2 rounds.
