WORST year for games?

my backlog is already so huge that between fable, forza, gta 6, and the diablo expansion i'll be happy if no more games release at all this year because i have plenty else to play on top of the new releases i want this year.

No, you can't focus on recent years with lists like the Acclaimed Games list. The reason is its methodology is built specifically to form a canon from consensus. Thus, while the placement itself on lists is a big factor in where a game will be calculated to stand, the more mentions that a game gets over the decades is also a huge factor.

This means that games from the most recent years are at a major handicap because they just came out, and they will be on so few "greatest of" lists. They just haven't been around long enough. That's good because it prevents recency bias from distorting the canon. Games will generally have to "stand the test of time" to earn a higher place.

However, this also means that the methodology is the least useful to ranking the more recent years respective to past years as we are doing in this thread.
