Worshipping the Flying Spaghetti Monster is not a real religion, court rules

It's real to me dammit!

I've been telling atheists they're religious all this time, and it takes someone to "infringe" their right to be religious for them to exclaim that they are.

It's a lose-lose for them.

Well seeing the topic matter, I was quite sure the thread would be going places anyway lol

Proper etiquette says you should, at the very least, quote a highlight from the article.

FSMism is no different than any other religion. (In fact, it's possibly less silly than most).

Only the adherents don't actually believe it, nor does it have any influence over their lives. It's a joke and the courts made the right decision.

How do you know? It's as real as any religion. This guy even has tattoos declaring his faith. How many tattoos of gay Jesus do you have?

There are requirements to be recognized as a religion by the govt. Not controversial. FSMism clearly is satire and not a real religion.

I concur. The plaintiff would've been better off trying to make the argument he was the adherent of some dead or almost dead faith like the Greek pantheon or some form of Shamanism. Those are actual religions people once believed in and I think his case would've been much stronger.

We prefer the label Pastafarian, thank you very much.

Do you think the person who founded it and its initial core of followers truly believed in it?
That's a question best answered by people who wear colanders on their heads in DL photos.

I don't really see why prisons have to accommodate any religious belief at all. Prisoners lose rights while incarcerated. So long as the institution isn't creating rules that favor a particular faith then tough shit. Don't get locked up.

It's a sad day. He boiled for your sins! Why would you deny his grace?
