Losing major motivation to go the gym these days despite being signed up to a year long contract. In the UK right now it's freezing cold so after work I cannot be arsed and when i do go the gym its still rammed with the ''new year new me' brigade which puts me off.

Have a spare bedroom that I need to clear out. Was thinking of getting a few dumbbells and a bench. Is that enough to get toned or ripped as well as running once a week and muay Thai twice a week??

Do most people on here workout at the gym or at home?? Thoughts on the pro's and con's??

Working out at home is better as you have less excuses not to lift. However, you're usually limited on how much you can do unless you spend a lot on a home gym.

How are you planning to hit legs at home?

Cant stand having people stand by me waiting for equipment or even worse, waiting for it. Thats just asking to kill motivation. I have always been a home exercise person. Pushups, situps, pullups dumbbells, heavy bag and treadmill are all that I need.

I worked at the weight room at the rec center here when I was a teenager. The thing I always found amusing were those that drove to the gym to run on a treadmill then drive home. It just seemed odd to me.

And if you have the room just do it at home. I do it cause that way I can workout in my underwear. This is just to so I don't get fat and soft, though. If you’re trying to be the next Coleman then hit the gym. You ain't gettin jacked using a couple dumbbells.

Home. Here's my lil gym.

I don't mind working out around other people. In fact, back when I was young and swole, I enjoyed being the big fish in a small pond and wowing everyone with my mediocre feats of strength. The reason I started working out at home is simply because my schedule is too tight for me to add travel-time to the process.

I have a home gym set-up, but I much prefer to go to the gym.

Way more motivation.

i can't work out at a gym. don't like working out in front of others. feel much more comfortable working out at home.

Home. I've accumulated a sick setup over the years. Olympic level bench, hex bar, dip center, various free weights, pull up bar, curling bar, heavy and mid sized bag, resistance bands, stationary bike, etc..

Only good reason to go to a gym is to scope out the beautiful ladies.

Buy a squat rack or get a hex bar. Pretty simple. It shouldn't break your bank.

Guys in jail manage to work legs simply by doing lots of reps and varying stances.

Everyone is different. When I was 17-19 I had a large, comprehensive modular home bench with a rack and everything, but I quickly lost interest in lifting at home. I vegan working out at the gym when I was 19 or 20 and have always enjoyed it - although I do not socialize, which many gym people love to do.

I just love the availability of equipment to string sets together. Flys, pullups, military, dips - bam bam bam. No issues with equipment setup and so forth.

These days I actually work out at a somewhat bougie local gym. The only drawback is that it has no bench presses, but I make up for it with flys and dumbbell presses. It's very modern, clean, and half the time I'm the only one in the weight room.

On the topic of home workouts..

When I do decide to stay home (I rarely do now since my gym now is like six blocks away) I just hit the heavy bag in my storage room, and for everything else I do a series of chain calisthenic sets (pushups, squats , planks, crunches, doorframe rows, etc.) - like 8-9 sets in immediate succession. Rest in between the blocks.

I also keep a 45 pound dumbbell at home that can be used for all sorts of intense sets which I dont really have names for.

I would prefer a home gym, but I would be afraid of damaging the floor (and my garage isn't insulated).

I train in the middle of the night at one of the 24 hour good life's and it is like having your own private gym. Outside of a handful of people, you have the place to yourself.

I mix it up

Can't go to the gym nowadays as my Mrs works nights so I have our son

So when he's asleep I can get a solid workout in with my dumbbells and kettle bells
Then at weekend I go to the gym early

Gotta improvise and adapt with the times or at least that's what I tell myself

Good question. I just started building a garage gym and it's still a work in progress but a HUGE part is how you derive your motivation. I'd be a liar if I said I didn't get some extra motivation on days I wasn't really into it by simply going to the gym and being around attractive fit women. In an ideal world you shouldn't need that to get you to do your job of lifting but I'll tell you, there were days where knowing who's watching made a dramatic difference in my workouts. Gets the adrenaline pumping. Again, depends on the person. We're all different in what drives us.

Got some weights, a bench and something like this on my balcony

And decent shoes to go run

Problem is more about me being a lazy fuck in winter rather than lack of tools to train lol

Maybe they live to far to run and rhea hate where they live. If he had a full weight set and bench and squat he could get jacked. His diet will be very important.

Yeah got to go when it emptier.

This right here.

You start with some essentials: Heavy bag, Bench, Bars, Free weights, kettle bells, pullup/dip station, bands, medicine balls, cardio machine, plyo boxes. With floor padding and some other accessories it's like $500. Then you just add something for yourself on birthdays and Christmas, and maybe let other people know they can buy u gym shit for holidays.

After a couple years and about $2000, you got a solid setup.

I used to workout at a gym years ago, I stopped because I kept getting sick cause those vain people who felt like if they didnt hit the gym they would get fat would go to the gym sneezing and with coughs and sick they refused to skip a workout, so they would transfer their virus to others, if you are sick stay the hell home.

The time when I did workout id go at night time, when it was empty but then in the winter I wouod be shivering driving home with a wet back and chest from a hard workout or using the treadmill.

If I had money Id just workout at home its easier to stay motivated when you have a gym in your home in a warm room or something.

My friend has his own gym he has stairmaster and versa climber and I used them and love them it makes cardio quick and fun, you get a real tough breather, tread mill is boring and bad on my ankle I have a bad ankle.

he also got one of those powertec leverage systems and man they are awesome especially if you dont have anyone to spot you, I used it and every muscle group I hit got so sore, thats how you know you really hit the spot the next morning.

If I had the money and space id buy a stairmaster and versa climber for my home, Tread mill is boring as hell.

This is the new cheaper stairmaster it foldable and just as effective but still expensive cost like 3 grand

And Id buy one of those Leverage multi gyms from Powertec my friend has one like this and man it is awesome especially if you are injured or have a history of bad joints this one will burn your muscles and make them grow

I used it and my chest was never this sore even when I used the bench press I could never hit the middle chest to get it sore, but this powertec gym helped
