I've ben working at a big vessel shop this week and it is dirty as fuck. Every morning when I finish my hands and arms are charcoal black with dirt and my face is filthy. Been Crawling under this small opening probably 20 inches to get under the vessel head to do shots and I have to crawl on my hands and knees. My hands get dirty as fuck and also small metal sliver sometimes drive in my hands. I wash up after work many times but my hand are still dirty does not matter how hard I scrub that shit stays in the cracks of the skin.

So I was wondering do many other people work jobs where they get really fucking dirty? If so how do you feel about it? If not would you work a dirty job? And what do they think when they see people in public with dirty hands?

Have you considered wearing gloves?

Also, no I don't work a dirty job, but I would wear it as a badge of honor. There's nothing wrong with rolling up your sleeves and getting dirty. In fact, this is pretty much how I spend my weekends...after a week in the office, I'll work in the basement or outside and sweat like a pig all day and it feels good. It's what we are wired to do...our monkey forefathers were dirty as fuck.

Don't wear gloves cause they mostly just get in the way use my fingers a lot so they have to be thin and the metal slivers would just go right through them.
Knew that answer would be the first one

i used to roof, and it was nearly as dirty as your job... however i hated when i would be done work and blow my nose and see how much crap was up there, it would be black and nasty...

There was a television show about dirty jobs.
That was enough for me.

Had a cash in hand job fixing trucks/lorries/heavy vehicles for 2 weeks when I was attending college, the job was filthy don't think I ever got fully clean for those 2 weeks. Had to get my overalls specially cleaned because it would have broken my washer. Worked in a normal mechanic shop also and it was no where near as bad.

I had a job changing tires. Of course people wait til it snows to get them changed. So we would handle soggy ass tires all day that have been soaked in street salt/gravel. The compressed air used in the equipment would blow shit all over the place too. Coveralls, gloves, hats, face shields, etc helped. Though you'd still need a lengthy shower to clean off.

As a zookeeper I get dirty many different ways in a day. In a normal day I could have feces, urine, shavings, hair, dirt, food, blood, saliva, etc etc.

Sometimes I get blood on myself. Have to smell a lot of poop. Brain matter a few times. That's kind of dirty I guess.

This you TS?

I worked at a greenhouse for a year. Practically had to wash myself with sandpaper to get the dirt off.

Still better than a janitor I guess.

No I dont have a dirty job and I would never look down on anybody who gets dirty doing their job,on the opposite I have a lot of respect for them because they do something that maybe I wouldnt be able to do.

I drive a vacuum truck and pump grease traps and septic tanks. Wearing gloves helps reduce the amount of dirt on my hands but my clothes are covered in grease when I get home.

my dad was a diesel mechanic for years. he would always come home with dirty hands and arms.

to this day, his hands are still slightly dark from the years and years of oil on his hands. and his skin is hard as hell. it feels like leather.

I've done
Excavating... dirt, mud, dust, and poop, lots of poop.
Garbage... you fucking name it. Maggotts, adult diapers, rotten fish, used dong bags...

Been working buoys in the US Coast Guard for 4 years now. There was a Dirty Jobs episode on it. Love it!

I have to unclog toilets. Somethings I have to take the toilet off the floor, and reach in the opposite direction to pull out anything stuck.

I also have to snake drains. It is very dirty. Lots of this black sooty powder that is sticky.

Does it smell bad?

I used to work at a job dying clothes. Hands would be purple even with gloves. You'd also get purple dick because of standing at a table overflowing with dye.

It never really washed off while I worked there. After I left it took a little while, but my skin did shed the dyed layers eventually.
