This is nothing more than a tune up fight for Woodley before he goes after the belt. Mark my words. Mark them.
This. After the fight people will complain that Twood doesn't deserve a title shot after dominating someone so green.

Woodley sounds serious, I think he’s fighting for his career tonight. Woodley is going to win....

If he loses, I don’t know where he goes from here, probably Hollywood.

T-Wood's had some injuries, but if he's anywhere as good as he's ever been - he should win. As much hate he magnets on to himself, he's a good caliber above most fighters on the roster. Burns seems better at WW, but his overall resume is quite unimpressive. So I'm picking Woodley.

But if Burns wins, this will be a real coming out party for him. And what a reinvention. From getting KO'd by a former FW to getting into title contention at WW.

Lol at blaming twood for people hating on him

Oh crap the fight is tonight. I thought it was tomorrow.

This is hard one for me to call.

Woodley usually loses to fighters who can shut his game down. Gilbert is an aggressive finisher who throws everything with big power. He’s not a stick and move fighter or a fighter who can bamboozle Woodley on the feet. I’d like to see him use his leg kicks to score on Woodley. Shields did a good by using the lead leg kick to score, but Gilbert’s probably going to choose the rear power leg kick.

I don’t think Woodley will want much to do with Gilbert on the ground. He might do some classic lay and pray in one or two rounds but it’s a risk. I don’t expect wrestling to be his main plan. If he keeps his back on the cage like he usually does Gilbert might just be able to throw kicks towards him and score. If Woodley fights in the centre it will be very interesting. Gilbert has big power but Woodley has more of course. Woodley is also faster and he has better defense and head movement, but Gilbert is getting better defensively. I wouldn’t be shocked if Gilbert did manage to catch him hard in an exchange. Woodley’s lead hand isn’t up to much and Gilbert throws with big power in both of his hands. The left hook against Maia was perfectly timed and so fast. Burns is also the better combination puncher.

Neither guy has great cardio but Woodley is good at pacing himself and has gone 5 rounds a few times now. Burns has a higher output but usually starts to fade as true fight goes on. With the risk of being knocked out though, Gilbert might try and slow things down a bit and it might lead to him being fresher than usual the alter it goes.

This is a weird fight. I’ve changed my mind more than once while writing this post. I think Burns either needs a KO or he is going to have to put on the performance of his career. Burns could win a slow paced kickboxing match, but he hasn’t really done it before. I guess you could count the Gunnar Nelson fight but that’s about it. This is probably the perfect time for Burns to fight Woodley though. Burns has been active and has a lot of momentum and is improving each fight. Woodley is getting old and was dominated in his last fight and has a lot of things going on outside of the cage. If I could design a fighter to fight And beat Tyron Woodley, it wouldn’t be one with Gilbert Burns’ style. Woodley is the safer pick. We’ve seen him take out plenty of welterweights and he has never been finished in the UFC. We’ve seen him go 5 rounds and remain dangerous. We’ve seen him remain incredibly patient until it’s time for him to land that bomb. I’m going to go with Woodley to win by knockout. I think maybe round 2. I will be extremely impressed if Burns finds a way to get this done though. He’d be a threat to the belt if he could pull it off. I actually think he probably matches up better with Burns and Covington than he does with Woodley.

He blames everyone for his problems from his lack of popularity to how little he draws...except himself. Like him or not its a fair statement to say unlike Colby and Usman who put on an act typically to get their desired reactions, Woodley really is a completely self absorbed and unlikeable douche. Having shitty fights with Maia and Wonderboy so bad that nobody wanted to see him fight again didn't help either.

Hoping for a win for Gilbert, T-Woodoaman is boring, his music sucks, his mom is awesome, yet he still finds ways to be a complete asshole.

Bet against Burns, you will get Burned.

Here's a fun fact: All of Woodley's losses came from opponents that have a win over Maia (Usman, Rory, Shields, Marquardt). After tonight, add Burns to that list.

Impressive performance by mr burns!

Hes top ww at this moment n would definitely destroy any past ww, including gsp.

I think he's the most skilled WW since GSP, to be honest, based on that performance.

100% agree.

Honest assessment, man. I look at Gilbert Burns as more of a threat to prime GSP than I've looked at any other WW.

That is one scary dude. All around a very skilled guy, good cardio, power. That's the guy that is a bad matchup for GSP if anyone in the division ever has been IMO.
