It's an interesting topic - how is fighter's stock is affected by their opponents losing.
Even though Maia's last fights makes Woodley's win seem less impressive - we can't forget the amazing win streak Maia had before that with 7 straight and wins over Magny, Condit, Brown, Masvidal.
We can't really tell if the last 2 losses should overshadow that and indicate that the blueprint was there all along. Or if Woodley paved the way, and Maia got a bit worse.
But when it comes to Woodley's status I would argue his 4 last fight had VERY high status challengers.
In fact, Woodley beat Maia, Lawler and Wonderboy at just the PERFECT time to "get the most out of it". All those 3 guys pretty much were at the peak of their careers status wise when they faced Woodley.
Right now, I'd argue that no WW contenders are quite at that same level yet.
So Woodley sure racked up the points when the time was right.
(Even though most of the fights were boring, you can't fault the level of opposition)
