I know he is fighting Rory MacDonald soon, and he has recently beaten Johny Hendricks.

But how does he fare vs the other top welterweights? my thoughts are;

C - Robbie Lawler - Wonderboy via 2nd round ko
1 - Rory MacDonald - Wonderboy via 2nd round ko
2 - Stephen Thompson
3 - Tyron Woodley - Wonderboy via 3rd round ko
4 - Carlos Condit - Wonderboy decision (in three rounds, or Condit in five)
5 - Johny Hendricks - Wonderboy by 1st round ko again
6 - Demian Maia - Wonderboy by 3rd round tko/decision
7 - Neil Magny - Wonderboy by 2nd round ko
8 - Matt Brown - Wonderboy decision
9 - Dong Hyun Kim - Wonderboy decision
10 - Tarec Saffiedine - Wonderboy decision

Thoughts?

I think Wonderboy's toughest match-up in that list is #2 ranked Stephen Thompson.

It's a Boy vs Men

Jk, big fan of his karate style

I just made a Wonderboy thread. I wouldn't be so bold as to say no one at WW beats him, but he looked great against Big Rigg

I think he loses to Rory and Condit, but I'd pick him over the rest of the division.

I could see Maia grappling him to a UD.

Robbie's dangerous. Wouldn't count him out. I though Condit was tailor made to pick him apart but that didn't quite happen (I mean I thought Condit had the same tools Wonderboy has to get the TKO-not the decision).

I think Rory has more tools to win, so is another tough one to call.

Condit is durable and another good rangy striker.

Woodley is a fast wrestler.

Everything else I would call a safe Wonderboy bet, but the above are "any given day" kind of fights.

Good points, fellas.

Michael Page vs Thompson would be a better movement fight than TJ vs Dominick. Or close to it.

No wonder Rory bought him to train for this fight.

C - Robbie Lawler - I see it similar to Lawler vs Condit...close decision and a helluva fight, but I see Lawler taking it.
1 - Rory MacDonald - This is the hardest one for me. Rory is extremely well rounded, he may be able to be competitive on the feet and be able to take Wonderboy down. If I'm betting money tho, I'm taking Wonderboy. Can't wait to see it, great matchup to see just how good either guy is.
2 - Stephen Thompson- Wonderboy by 1 punch KO
3 - Tyron Woodley - Wonderboy by easy decision
4 - Carlos Condit - Fun fight, I see Condit taking the decision or late stoppage. Wonderboy cardio is a bit of a question mark. I see Condit wearing him down and finishing him like in the Brown fight. Even though Wonderboy has improved since, Condit is better than Brown.
5 - Johny Hendricks - Wonderboy by 1st round ko again. Agreed
6 - Demian Maia - I'm taking Maia here. He gets it to the ground one way or another and it's over.
7 - Neil Magny - Wonderboy by 3rd round TKO.
8 - Matt Brown - Would like to see this rematch. I'll take Wonderboy by 3rd round TKO.
9 - Dong Hyun Kim - Wonderboy KO round 1. Stun gun has been throwing crazy lately.
10 - Tarec Saffiedine - Wonderboy decision. Agreed.

So your saying Wonderboy has a chance?

C - Robbie Lawler - Lawler by ko
1 - Rory MacDonald - Rory by decision
3 - Tyron Woodley - Woodley by ko
4 - Carlos Condit - Condit by tko
6 - Demian Maia - Maia by submission
7 - Neil Magny - Magny by tko
8 - Matt Brown - Brown by decision
12 - Kelvin Gastelum - Gastelum by decision
13 - Tumenov - Tumenov by ko
16 - Lorenz Larkin - Larkin by ko
18 - Warley Alves - Alves by decision
26 - Ben Saunders - Saunders by submission

-I think he beats Robbie 7/10 times at this point. Robbie's chin has taken a lot of shots with all his recent wars (not to mention a long career at MW). He's hittable and has been hurt badly in a few of his recent fights. Thompson is a sniper in there and would likely finished a dazed Lawler by tko. You can never count Robbie out though.

-Rory is an interesting matchup for Thompson, and vice versa. I'm very curious to see if Thompson will be as aggressive as he was against Hendricks, and if Rory is able to capitalize with reactive takedowns or possibly counter punches.
Now that I think about this matchup, there are some similarities to how both guys strike, like the use of mostly straight punches and kicks (front kick's, etc.), the distance they like to strike at, etc., but a lot of the things that Rory does well Wonderboy does better, and one of Rory's best weapons, the jab, could be nullified by Wonderboy's constant stance switches and blitzing style. I see a good chance of Wonderboy taking this fight in a hard fought battle where Rory takes him down a couple times and maybe takes some rounds as well. Could also see Rory winning a ud or getting a TKO with GnP.

-Maia wins. I am thoroughly on board the Demian Maia Single-Leg of Doom Warwagon. He somehow manages to get everyone down in the first, and with Wonderboy- (who i'm sure has competent BJJ skills) - that one takedown is all he might need. I haven't really seen much in the way of knees or leg attacks from Wonderboy, and other than his obvious ability to control range and decent takedown defense, he doesn't offer much to dissuade Maia from timing him and grabbing a hold of a leg, or even just shooting in after his patented feint feint feint the jab and shoot tactic.

Those are the most intriguing matches for me out of that top 10 list.

I think Rory and Maia are the biggest challenges left for him. Rory due to the fact that he is the most well rounded fighter at the top of the division, and Maia due to the fact that Maia excels at grappling, which is Wonderboy's weakest skill set.

I'd probably pick him over everyone, but that doesn't mean he'd win. I'm a little biased and wanted to see him in this position for a long time. Looking at that list makes me realize how much I really like most of the top 10. Great group of talent.

We get it. You think Wonderboy is the best welterweight.
