Weekend picks:
I see a tuf fight but in the end Ducote gets it done and continues to climb the ranks.
I was favouring Ribas who looked good vs Chookagian. But watching their fight thread idk feels like people are sleeping on Cortez and I'm a fan of anyone who brings in Henry so I flipped to her.
I'm most confident Nunes fights a good 5, then Yasmin has her way to the end for a ud or finish. Nunes might be the poster girl for any success being purely from roids and usada actually works.

This week is probably

Ducote by decision
I wanted to say Ribas... But i feel like Cortez is the more reasonable decision... Basically Ribas by heart but i would bet on Cortez.
Jareugui by ud (Istela probably gets cut afterwards)

Edit: Nunes UFC career was pretty Sad... Losses+suspension... Well... I Wonder what's next If she gets cut

I got:
- overkill to get REVENGE on ducote for defeating jessica penne last time out
- cortez gases ribas through a combination of forward pressure and wrestling
- it would be a shame for istela nunes to get bounced if she loses this one as her fights have been super entertaining so far...
i like jauregui's chances here but i'm gonna pull for the underdog nunes :)

Hill by decision. I think Hill can use her footwork & striking to style on Ducote.

Ribas by decision. Can Ribas rebound from some tough losses. Can Cortez keep her ufc win streak going. Most excited for this one.

Jauregui by KO. She has shown power in the past. Time for a statement.

Enjoy the fights!

Random fightweek fact: 'Jauregui' is a Basque surname.

I'm sure these guys will be excited to have a Human Cockfighter representative for them to cheer To The Top

Former fighter and Combate Global matchmaker Wendy Arellano made a video documenting the fight week for Combate’s all women’s event back on August 12

Just for you:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Esparza

and I thought she was Irish.
Basque heritage confirmed essential component in being the ruling jefa global de combate mano-a-mano (brb phoning my broker 'Krames Jause' to betinvest everything in Jauregui).

Cortez by wrestling (and size)
Jauregui by cardio (and Basqueness)
Ducote by... something? I think she's the better fighter but she's a bit cagey while Angela throws more (good for the judges... except when you're Angela Hill I guess). A lot of ppl forget (understandably, since she's just been boxing of late) that Ducote's base is actually in grappling styles which could be important here.

I kinda feel sorry for Interstellar Nunes - despite being a CONVICTED BRAZILIAN WMMA ROID CHEAT (my usual bete noir) - it seems she reaped none of the longterm stereotypical benefits of her er, 'culture' (lasting strength/power) but did keep the detriments (terrible cardio lasting only 1 round). And she actually has skill and an entertaining style as long as she can keep it up. If she does somehow show up with cardio, this could be a very competitive fight. But most likely she goes 0-3 and gets kicked out the door (I do think the UFC should give her 1 last chance on account of having a fan friendly striking style and needing more time to get her cardio groove back).

this card has 3 highly interdasting bouts but then it's a bit of a drought for the next few months UFC-wimminz wise as far as I'm concerned (and a disturbing lack of RENA in RIZIN - I hope this is just because she's about to film a documentary where she travels to the UK to try and find a husbando amongst its MMA fans).

It had to happen. They scheduled Cortez vs Ribas in early August, four months ahead. I'm surprised it didn't get cancelled/rescheduled much earlier, those 3+ months in advance bookings rarely happen.

Why do you think that?

It was a good fight. Lin’s problem was she had no answer for Zamboanga’s overhand right. The most basic punch mma fighters learn to throw (considering how many can’t jab, but always go to the overhand), and she couldn’t see it coming or answer it. I thought she got absolutely robbed against Hirata, but letting a fight be that close in your more popular opponent’s home country? The decision was obvious, even as they were reading it as a split.

Why do you think that?

Short answer? Life is unpredictable
Long answer? Fighters usually take more damage in their camps than they do in the actual fights, they're always getting injured, and the weight cuts just make everything worse. Then there's always the politics that come into it too (visa issues, covid, etc).

It's super common in WMMA to have short notice changes, because the athletes are always pulling out of fights for whatever reason. Booking something four months ahead is begging for issues.
