Feel like we are slipping further into a WME-created fantasy where logic doesn't apply...

UFC 221 - Romero punished for missing weight, doesn't get the interim belt....but who cares? He'll get the next title shot anyway (for the record - he flat out beat rockhold last night, no disputing that).

UFC 222 - Edgar/Ortega is a compelling fight that absolutely needs to be 5 rounds, yet gets relegated to co-main to accommodate a forced Cyborg fight as the main, a fight that will probably last 7 minutes? FFS keep edgar/Ortega as the main and a 5 rounder OR make it for an interim belt but give us the 5 rounds!

The catering to casuals is making me a hypocrite:

221 was a 1 contender fight, kept as a main event, and got me saying it was unnecessarily promoted to an interim championship

222 has a 1 contender fight, demoted to co-main, got me saying its needing a interim championship for the sake of the 5 rounds

Romero cares because he loses money. Romero vs Whitaker II won't sell. They need to stack it as a co-main.

No you can't market Edgar vs Ortega as the main event. The only options were
  • Bring Cyborg in to save the card.
  • Keep Edgar as main event but move the fight to FOX.(That will be an issue with tickets. Who the fuck wants to pay T-Mobile arena prices for Edgar vs Ortega?
  • Cancel the event.

The entire situation is a mess with the UFC. They to cut back on events for a bit.
 
They gotta make money and they weren’t expecting the 221 card to do anything with how it was originally booked.

222 They felt they needed a title fight and it’s been a pretty long time since Frankie main evented a PPV (like actually five years now), also Ortega taking a five round fight on a months notice is probably a bad idea. If the Cyborg fight lasts five rounds the ref should be put in jail.

i understand your point perfectly but honestly, who else deserves it more then Romero?

first time he missed weight and it was a short notice fight for him. i say lets give him the benefit of the doubt.
 
No one cares on the wme side, they need a fertita who was the good cop to Dana's bad cop.

Is that they were also fans and did think like hardcore fans...sometimes. They did care about the sport. You don’t appreciate that until a group of non-fans take over and have a UFC on Ice vision of the whole thing.

Every Edgar fight should be a mandatory 5 rounds.

It's hilarious you think Cyborg vs. Kunitskaya will go 7 minutes.
 
Wont buy a Romero or Cyborg card regardless of who is on it at this point.
 
Well Romeros path while probably not acceptable by most (weight cut).
He essentially said fuq your interim belt which I’m a huge fan of.

I agree it's a mess. The 4th option is make edgar/Ortega for an interim belt to get the 5 round fight....which contradicts my usual opinion of limiting all these interim belts, hence the thread.

My main beef is having edgar/Ortega only be 3 rounds. I'd happily watch on fox

Edgar Ortega definitely needs to be the main event.

The UFC has made a grave error in assuming title fight = main event.
 
I completely agree with WME by giving romero the titleshot, but frankie ortega not being the main event is a joke, whot he fuck cares about cyborg a nd some random bum. not only 145 female is a joke but female fighting and sports in general. just send it back to invicta, please
