Without bias, did Silva lose his first fight to Chris or did Chris really win?

As the saying goes,” It was his fight to lose”. By that it means, he just acted reckless and lost the fight and not because his opponent was better than him. So my question goes like this, is this the case of Anderson Silva vs Chris Weidman and that it was Silva’s fight to lose since he started leaving this hands down clowning around and being reckless or did Chris expose his weaknesses?

Did Silva lose? Yes, he lost to an undefeated phenom after 20+ Years of wear and tear at 37-38 years old, years removed from his actual prime, let alone his peak. Finally suffering his first UFC defeat a couple years from 40….

Could he have performed far better? Yes, and did he have enough in the tank to pull off the win? IMO yes

Chris beat him. Anderson clowned in many of his other fights and still ended up destroying the guys.

He didn't mess about in the second fight prior to the leg break and was still losing handily.

Not taking a guy seriously doesn't mean a loss automatically doesn't count.

By that logic Rockhold wasn't really KOed by Bisping, Mousasi wasn't really lit up by Hall etc.

I appreciate your opinion

This, plus Anderson was way too overconfident and clowning around and it ended up costing him in the end.

Also, they fought at different points in their career. Chris was a beast at the time. He was really peaking at the time and Anderson had already had a long career and should have been towards the end of it. Damn near every fighter at this point has either declined or retired.

I was a huge Silva fan, and right from the start, he looked like he wasn't taking Wiedman seriously. It is one of the most disappointed I have ever been at a fight result. He acted like an idiot, and paid the price. I think Silva lost the fight because of over confidence, then lost the rematch by a fluke leg break. That said, he did lose 2 fights to Wiedman, and that is all that matters.

I believe if Silva stayed out of range and picked his shots right without this clowning, he could’ve KO’d Chris honestly but oh well, he got finished and kept on clowning into the post fight interview which was really lame

Silva was trying to duck Weidman so he obviously took him seriously. He was clowning because he thought his best chance to win was to throw him off.

Honestly its weird how back then Chris was in his prime and Anderson was starting to look old in the cage.

Yet it they fought in 2022 I would favour Anderson to knock Weidman out. Chris has looked worse in his last few fights than Anderson ever did, while Anderson has shown outside of the UFC that he's still capable of winning tough fights. Beating a legit former world champion boxer in boxing.

I feel like he lost it himself more than Weidman won but that's how it goes. Silva was being a little too dismissive though and it didn't feel like his normal tactics. He was starting to take over so I don't doubt that Silva could've won without the mistake in distance he made.
