Media Winner Stays On with ‘Money May’ 💵

The UFC does that type of thing. Shane Carwin was listed at 6'5 in some of his fights, 6'3, and even as short as 6'2 in others. Carwin himself says he's 6'1. He somehow managed to "cut" height is the running joke that's been going on for years in the MMA community.

With regard to his age when fighting Ali. A more recent assessment is that he was 38 years old which in those times would be the equivalent of a 45 year old today.

Some believed that he was a couple years older but that would still only put him in his mid 30s. That isn't old even back then and there was never any real evidence to show for it.

“He claimed to be 32 years old at the time of the bout, but many believed that his true age was closer to 34, perhaps even older.”

Mayweather seems to be more impressed about Joshuas fighting abilities than I am

To me Joshua is an A-level technican in a B-fighters body.

He is just about good enough for his strengths to cover over his weaknesses in this era. But not when truly great fighters are facing him-

His defence is bad, his chin is shaky, he is mentally very inconsistent. The guy is all over the place.

So I dont know what Mayweather is seeing in him. There is nothing great about Joshua as a fighter, its just a weak era.

Every year counts when you get into your 30s. And people werent exactly getting protein bars back then.

He may always been a bit sluggish pulling the trigger against guys who moved around, but against Ali his sense of timing looked like that of an old fighter.

Ingemar Johanson was quite critical of Sonny Liston before Liston became champ.

"The film is turning too slow," he said. "Can you speed it up?"

"That is normal speed," the man said.

Ingemar shrugged and turned to watch Liston against Eddie Machen in a fight that went a full 12 rounds because Liston never could catch up. (Ingemar had knocked Machen out in one round to win his successful chance at Patterson's title.) Liston, doggedly stomping after Machen, seldom could get within serious punching distance of him. And that explained why Ingemar thought the movie projector was faulty. It wasn't the projector. It was Liston.

"My God, he is slow," Ingemar said, as Machen easily evaded Liston time after time.

Joshua won the Olympics (controversy aside) after only a few years of learning how to box. He was a late starter at 18 and won Olympic gold at 22. That's the kind of talent he had. Usyk couldn't even do that after 6 years of boxing experience. At his first Olympiad he didn't even medal.

Similiar with Wilder. Bronze in the Olympics after 3 years. So not much of an argument.

Usyk apparently wasnt the most talented:

"I've been boxing since I was 15 years old. They kept telling me that I shouldn't be boxing. They told me that I wouldn't become an Olympic champion or a world champion and that I shouldn't have switched to the heavyweight division. But these were opinions from people who couldn't do it themselves.

Similar story with Wilder only Joshua also took silver at the Worlds the previous year before the Olympics. Usyk was very talented. He played football at a high level as a youth. The reason people doubted him is because he was such a late starter in boxing. Most start when they're kids. He didn't start until he was 15 and was a skinny middleweight back then. On top of that he was moving up to light heavyweight and eventually to heavyweight.

But they didnt ask Floyd about natural ability, they asked about fighting. And betting on Joshua fighting past greats is a very dicey bet.

Joshua would always have a decent chance against anybody because physically he's a specimen. Huge, rangy & tall, athletic, and he has fight changing power in both hands.

I dont think he had a decent chance against Usyk, and he had two tries.

He always had a real shot against Usyk. It isn't like he was blown out on either occasion. He ran into someone that's a generational talent. Someone that specializes in fighting huge guys like him. Just because a past heavyweight is an ATG doesn't automatically mean that they'd beat Joshua. It doesn't work like that. They'd still have to be able to take his power, get past his long reach, and not get physically bullied by him in there.

We dont know that.

Fury was not in his prime when he fought Usyk. The fact that he says he was is nothing more than a moral boost.

We have the tape.. Fury was past his best, but still strong

We do know that. The Fury wasn't in his prime excuse doesn't work because Usyk wasn't in his prime either. He's even older and has wear & tear on him just like Fury does. Having over 350 amateur fights will do that.

To be fair he said every boxing forum regular. You haven't been here that long. Your opinion is about as valuable as a counterfeit half dollar piece.
When I was a competitive chess player and had my first tournament we had a genius mathematican on the team. I won and lost the first rounds as expected .. didnt do anything special. Then I was parried up against someone 500 rating points higher. Needless to say I was statistically expected to lose, but I beat him.

The mathematician on the train said he had figured me out and that I raise my level when facing tough competition. It gives me an extra drive.

I feel like Vitali Klitchko is that guy and he would outwork Joshua. Its quite remarkable how Floyd thinks Joshua wins. Its not the worst match-up for him but Vitalis ring craftsmanship and balls will carry the day. The flash boxer will blow his steam and then be breathing heavily . Eventually Vitali stops him.

I don't believe your chess story.

Vitali probably does beat Joshua but he wasn't invulnerable. Many questioned his heart after he retired on his stool against Byrd when he was up on the cards.
