I mean, even after Jan got his LHW belt wrapped around his waist, the first thing he asked for was Jon Jones. A reasonable demand since beating JJ means he legit got his belt for real instead of the slight "chance" from his pov that it's a paper belt.
Jan did beat the guy who gave Jones hell and back to get it though, so at least the belt is somewhat solid.
As for Cormier and his LHW strap? He makes up for it by doing the things that Jones never did by moving up to HW + doing a lot better against an enhanced Jones (2nd one) than any of Khabib's opponent did against him for the most part.
In JJ's case, the competition at that point started to catch up to him. In Khabib's case, the competition was still very much behind him since other than Conor in one round, Khabib absolutely dominated every single one of his contenders round by round.
Tbh it would have taken someone who could physically match his grappling skills to put him in check anyways, and I don't think the LW division rn has that specific fighter (except Diego Ferriera).
