Will going up and down in divisions hurt Conor?

I hope I'm wrong about this as I enjoy the excitement McGregor brings to the UFC. It seems like McGregor is seriously going to fluctuate from the 145-170 lb divisions. However, if there's anything I've learned from watching Roy Jones Jr go up to heavyweight to fight Ruiz then coming back to get KO'd by Tarver in his own division is that sometimes going up and down in weight can really catch up to you.

RJJ discussed how it was a huge mistake for him to go up in weight then come down, that he lost that speed and stamina he once had. I know boxing is a bit different but Conor is going from 145 lbs to 170. Im confident he beats Diaz but it seems his new plan is to consistently fluctuate from 145-170 for a while and that might be something that catches up with him quicker than people realize.

I'm not sure that he is getting back to FW. But if he does, he is going to fight Edgar, and he isn't know for his power.

GSP stated that he uses Roy Jones Jr as an example of why he would never jump divisions. Even said that if he were to fight Andy, it would be a permanent move. It affects with your timing to much.

I doubt he goes back to 145 at this point. Homie looked like the Machinist in the days leading up to 145 weigh in days

I really don't think he'll go back to 145 for more than 1 or 2 fights. Edgar and maybe the Aldo rematch. Especially if he's successful at the higher weight classes. But even if not, I think 145 is too low for him in the long run.

He's not going "up and down" in weight. He's a natural LW who's been taking refuge in the FW division.

So no, it shouldn't affect him too much to fight at his natural weight class and avoid massive weight cuts every now and then. It's probably good for him as a matter of fact.

BTW I highly doubt Conor ever takes a fight against a real WW.

Honestly though I think the UFC will allow catchweight fights just to see Conor fight interesting fighters at this point.
