Will Dominick Reyes rebound at UFC 281?

against supercann spann? Hard to imagine him losing that fight
Explain in great detail please how he is a can? He is 6-2 in the UFC and 1-0 on Contender series is that what constitutes a can these days? as much detail as possible please i really want to understand..

This. If he used the year and a half since his last fight to work on himself and heal up, I think he can become a force again at 205lbs. He's still only 32.

It’s 100% a question of where his head is at, he has the athleticism and skills to be elite.

But bad KO losses typically change fighters and rarely for the better.

Holding out some hope for Reyes tho.

He "should".

Smith convincingly boxed up Spann in the first round and finished him. Ryan also didn't wear the punishment from Walker particularly well and even Alvey had moments against him. Karl Roberson finished him on DWCS in the first and he has a first-round KO loss on the regional scene back when he was a Middleweight. Guy is prone to getting outstruck and chinned early, plain and simple. That said, he's dangerous in that he is himself a pretty well-rounded, explosive finisher. Heavy hands, lethal submissions, decent wrestling and a pretty physical/athletic guy.

Reyes has a solid albeit imperfect track record against takedown attempts, but I'd be thoroughly surprised if Spann was able to blitz across the cage, take him down, and submit him. Dom tends to stuff the takedowns that matter or at least scramble out of danger after a minute or so, especially when he's fresh. That leaves us with a striking match and I see a lot of people talking about how Dom's chin may be gone -- which is absolutely true -- but we don't really know either way just yet. He's taken a lot of time off to recover, which is great (though ring rust may be a factor). But even if his durability is compromised, it's not like Spann himself is a paragon in that area himself. If Dom lands clean on him it's equally bad news. So in a hypothetical crapshoot involving two explosive athletic glass cannons swinging at each other, I'm going to go with the one who's faced and beaten higher levels of competition and who has proven himself to be the far more technical striker -- despite Spann's longer reach, threat the of takedown, and more recent activity. I don't see anything Smith did against Ryan that even a shopworn busted-up Reyes shouldn't be capable of replicating IMO.

uhhh he only beats cans? And he lost to anthony smith and johnny walker? walker a semi can himself, LHW is a can division and he does not stand out as a fighter who will EVER be top 10

and?

If his chin holds up, I think he'll be ok. But the thing is, will that chin hold up?

Yup. Really good athlete and a skilled fighter. He was badly concussed twice though. Glad he took so much time off. I’m sure he hasn’t banked as much as he would have liked in his career so far so it’s good that he didn’t rush back for the paycheck like some would have.

It’s a big unknown, sometimes a guy is just done, look at Gus in his last fight.

So who isn’t a can then? Is anyone outside the top ten a can?

This is a pretty solid match up. I think Reyes has the edge on the feet and Spann has the grappling advantage, probably one of the nastiest squeezes in the division. I'm thinking the longer the fight goes, the more it benefits Reyes since he has more experience, but he may be rusty and the fight only being 3 rounds probably doesn't help. I think I like Spann since he has been active and gradually improving for years.

I think anyone would have gone down from the elbow from Jiri
It's amazing how people claim someone doesn't have a chin because they were knocked out by an elite fighter that has knocked out at least a dozen people. That elbow by Jiri would have knocked out any man on the planet. It was straight to the side of the head.

I think he will - I mean look who he's in camp and sparring/training with - Glover, Pereira, Belgaroui, Fernely Feliz Jr., Wellington Thurman. You cannot not get better.

He's fighting Ryan Spann on the prelims I think.
Hasn't fought in a year and a half and is coming of a 3 fight skid. 2 of those loses were vicious knockouts.

Do you think he's done or perhaps he has another run in him?
After all, he has only lost to former/current champions and supposedly beat the goat Jones not that long ago.
I think he gonna die

100%. I think the perfect example of your chin going is Chuck Liddel he was geting hurt or ko'ed by jabs

i hope so, i hate seeing great fighters on losing streaks. id say he has a solid shot. i think he is better than spann but ryan hits very hard and can knock anyone out

I like this fight, a good test to see where reyes is at both physicly and mentally.

Hope he can make a run again, makes the division more interesting.

Outside of the last Tito fight (which was just absurd), I dont recall that. The shots he took from Rampage, Rich and especially Rashad were all nasty ones. If anything, I'd say it was his reflexes which initially just fell off a cliff. His ability to absorb damage was obviously compromised as well, but my point is that those punches were brutal.

LHW is the WORST weight class of all of the ufc right now. the fact that Anthony smith is touted as a good fighter in that weight class is baffling.

I'll tell you who isn't a can

-Ankelaev
-Jiri
-Rakic
-Jan (but I dont see him fighting 3 more times)
-Glover (but I dont see him fighting 3 more times)
-Reyes (hard to tell if he'll ever recover from those last 2 beatings, I'd give him an asterik)
-Krylov (finally coming into his own as a fighter)

And yes, I'd pick any single one of these guys to destroy spann, and some people on this list i don't think are championship quality fighters, I just wouldn't call them calls. After jiri, Rakic, and ankelav there is a massive skill gap between those below them.

We have to hope that someone like Jailton almedia shakes this division up

That makes him a can, any other questions?
