He's not talking about p4p greatness, he's talking about stardom. The GSP analogy is very poor, as GSP was revered and not anywhere near being hated like Jon Jones is. I think the question is legit and I feel it'd definitely propel Gane to an extreme amount of exposure and recognition if he was to beat Jones, because the vast majority of people wants to see Jones lose. Whoever will do this will get an insane popularity boost, look at the popularity rise of Smith, Gustafsson, Santos and Reyes who each gave some trouble to Jones, imagine the one who's gonna actually beat him

It will help but I question how well Jones is known outside of the dedicated community at this point. Guy has been super inactive, newer fans really probably don’t know him. Anecdotal but just to give an example, my wife started watching with me about 9 years ago mostly by proxy but can identify most of the bigger names. She has a hard time remembering who Jones is.

Probably depends on how exciting the fight is and how Gane hypothetically wins. What Gane does or doesn't accomplish next with that hypothetical momentum could make him a bigger star.
