Will Cormier's mentality be his success or downfall with Jones?

Been watching the build up to date between Cormier and Bones and the exchanges they have had and it's clear to see DC is being eaten up by the fact Jones has done wrong outside of the octagon, been punished which has paved the way for his rise to the top but when Jones returns he is adored and DC is booed.

Jones is then in his face telling him he has the belt but he is still yet to beat the man, you got a guy in DC who has beat the top two 205 pounders outside of himself and Jones in Rumble & Gus and is the champion but he knows that NOBODY see's him as the legit champion or the man and it's raging inside of him.

Will it be his downfall or will it be what he needs to overcome Bones?

When I first watched the Jones Cormier fight as it happened, I was hoping Cormier would win but as the rounds unfolded I had the impression Cormier kind of folded. I recently re-watched it and was surprised about how close it actually was. Jones was certainly busier but Cormier was game right to the final bell. So I disagree with those who seem to suggest Cormier is in awe of Jones. If Jones allows Cormier to impose his game I think it wont have anything to do with mentality.

He certainly believes he can win.

I think dc is too emotional and this will be detrimental to him. He may still win but I think Jones cool and calm approach is much better.

The first fight was quite close but JBJ broke Cormier mentally as evidenced by the crying in post fight presser. I just can't see how Cormier can beat JBJ over 5 rounds though even if his mental state is good.

As long as he doesn't let it get too deep personally and effect his stamina and reactions, it could certainly help him. It's the type of fight that he needs as much fire and grit as possible, so anything that keeps it lit can help him, as long as it doesn't go too far and tighten him up.

If he tries too hard, he'll get tense and his shots will be stiff, easy to read which'll make him tire faster and get hit easier.

But it's his best chance of beating JJ, so the more ammo he has to push, grind and make it hell for JJ the better.

Let's just hope we don't see it cancelled cause of this latest shite.
