Hello, I got braces a year back but wasn't doing full contact sparring at the time. I just did karate and boxing for 5 years so getting braces wasn't an issue. Now I want to start going to MMA after my knee injury is over but will I be abled to train MMA with braces in? I would love to do amatuer fights and perhaps pro if I make it. How much will these braces set me back?

Obviously not the same experience, but I got braces back when I was playing American football. I thought they were going to hold me back tons, but I soon forgot about them once I got used to them. They didn't really affect me at all, especially since the mouth guard was designed for braces in mind.

Double Mouth Guard (Braces)

Not the exact one I got, but I would recommend the double and just learn to breath with it. American football had me wearing a face mask and so I rarely got tapped, and definitely not to the lower teeth. I've had friends whose brackets busted and that could be painful and costly. You're going to have to accept that they are indeed a handicap, but if you're careful and use the proper mouth guard you could probably pull something off.
