Will Anyone Ever Surpass BJ Penn?

Before the guida fight ( 19') , the whole business structure was different. His last loss before that ( 18') , I'm sure Bj talked white into it and didn't have a problem using his name vs Ryan hall to bolster up a card ( even as bad as he was performing).
It's a different world in UFC today. Penn wouldve already been released - mid contract or not - .

I couldn't believe Lombard took the fight w/ Henderson 3 months after being TKO'd by Magny, which as I recall was like a Diaz style volume murking. Meaning it might not look the worst, but Lombard was in all likelihood very concussed GOING INTO THE HENDO FIGHT. Being even slightly chinny going up against one of the hardest punchers in the sport was a terrible idea and Hendo put his lights out and probably took some months off his life. Lombard's manager ought to be ashamed of himself for letting his guy take that fight so soon after the TKO.

It would have to be someone incredibly marketable that the UFC wouldn't want to go to another promotion regardless of their record -- maybe McGregor? I don't see him losing more than 3 or 4 in a row though, much less 7.

In UFC losing streaks? Just got me thinking with Cerrone. I mean technically he beat Price but not really. That being said it's hard to think anyone else will be able to get to 7 losses without being cut. Penn very well could have gotten 8 if he hadn't gotten into his shenanigans. Seems like 5 losses is the sweet spot where they let someone go. Lombard was close with 6 losses. I can't remember if he retired or got cut or both. Arlovski had 5 then somehow is going about 50/50 in his fights. Who can you see getting to 8 straight losses? I'm not sure if that will ever happen. Given BJ's legacy, relationship with the UFC, popularity, and HUGE drop off in skill and motivation it was a perfect storm. It's still a little unbelievable that Penn almost had another fight after 7 losses and Dana still didn't seem committed into letting him go.

Cowboy's fight with Pettis (right before Price) could be considered a robbery though, I think Cowboy should have gotten the decision, then he would only be on a 2 fight winless streak. BJ Penn continually got beaten to a pulp, now he looks like a turtle-man.

Just without the point deduction, it was Price. It was a draw though I'm not gonna argue that.
I hate when people argue without the point deduction the offender wins. Without the eye poke Ceronne has two eyes to try to win. The eye poke also affects the rest of the fight. Why give fighters who foul opponents credit???

Lol at thinking a slap with enough force cant KO you. Ive seen many a man fall to the slap. You have to accept the fact that a slap can end your life at any moment.
Right. Those slapfest videos on youtube are crazy. I've seen guys get laid out cold from those slaps.

Anderoid “The Doper” Silva is basically on a nine fight skid. He took peds to fight the Diaz kid, and let’s be honest, nobody with more than one brain cell thinks that Brunson lost that fight. Lmfao

Don't forget he also got knocked out in a parking lot. So you would have to lose 7 in a row and get beat up by your girlfriend or wife to actually surpass BJ.

Sherdoggers > Pro Fighters

That guy laid out Penn like was nothing.

I'd like to take this opportunity to say, the only reason B.J. got knocked out is he got too cocky and thought it would be badass just like in a movie if he let the guy take a couple of free shots on him. A guy off the street didn't kick his ass. He gave the guy free shots. Dumb, yes, but not a reflection on his fighting ability or lack thereof.

Of course what you say is true. I think it reflects how far he has gone done on a personal level. It's really sad. I used to love the guy as a fighter.

Its sad to see how far Penn has fallen both professionally & in his personal life. This is a guy who at 1 point in time was ranked #1 P4P by some media outlets as well as a decent chunk of the fanbase (coming off his win over Hughes 1). This is a LW who fought arguably/probably the 3 greatest WWs of his era (GSP, Hughes, & Fitch). Has a winning record vs Hughes, a draw vs Fitch, & yes, he has 2 losses to GSP but GSP is the GOAT so there's no shame in that (1st fight was close, competitive fight that was a split dec). How the mighty have fallen

Technically or untechnically he did not beat Price at all, it was a draw because Price got a point deducted (in a fight he would have won) and the draw was overturned to a NC because Price tested positive for Marijuana...

I think Conor can rack up at least 15 loses before they cut him.
This, Conor, could literally lose every match on his fight contract get one renewed,. Lose all of those. And then, only then do they MAYBE CUT HIM. Yet I don't see them giving Conor guys he could legitimately lose to if he were on a BJ Esque decline, they'd resign Diego Sanchez/bj Penn just so Conor would win one.
