Amanda Nunes' championship victory has been getting a lot of buzz lately, Here's an article from USAToday, for instance.

Nunes new surge of popularity and attention has everything to do with the fact that she's an openly LGBT champ. Will she bring an additional fanbase to MMA/the UFC, and will the existing fanbase embrace their new brethern ?

It's a shame she doesn't bring in a fanbase solely based on the fact that she's infinitely more exciting than all the other women cos she knocks bitches dead

While I doubt it will bring in a new flood of LGBT viewers solely based on her openly gay lifestyle, I do believe the UFC's new corporate masters will try to market the hell out of it.

She's not "LGBT", she's just the "L". Nobody cares about her wanting to scissor other chicks, but if she was a "T", that would be a bit of a problem. You can already assume that lesbians comprise a disproportionate number of female athletes in most or all sports, so I doubt this is the one that brings a ton of lesbian fans. IMO, Meisha should probably draw more lesbo fans than Nunes. You think gay guys want to watch Nick Ring more than Sage?

Why LGBT members are always striving for additional publicity? Is anyone suppressing you or what? What's fucking wrong with you?

She fights in the octagon, she doesn't fuck with her girlfriend there
If anything fight fans will tune in, not gay-lesbian-whatever fans....

LGBT people go far too hard with it but they're actually persecuted and surpressed in large parts of the world + there's still social stigma in many places in the western world. Being open about it helps other LGBT get out of their closets and cum harder, so I'm all for it.

All of sherdog is already a fan of MMA. We're all gay. Just look at Sage theeads.

With all the Sage admiration threads, I'm pretty sure they are already here.

Although Cormier's lay'n'pray tactic didn't make for a good fight it may be the first time I appreciated a man laying on another man...so I think DC made me a little gay inside

I hope not. UFC isn't PC enough for that.

Fighting and fucking people of the same sex has nothing to do with the UFC and fighting in general. Stop this bullshit right now.

First Honda gets in the wimmin' and the casuals and now this seemingly unmarketable Brazilian suddenly ends up having a marketing angle. Can't say this division isn't potentially very profitable in the right hands even after Ronda is gone.

I had male acquaintances linking Rousey related articles after 190 en masse on facebook. The only other time I've seen them do this is with Conor after 189 and 194. The interest towards the WBW division in my circles slumped downwards a little after Holly won and just collapsed after 196. Now there seems to be some buzz, but we'll see what happens. The UFC 200 hype and the complete murking of Miesha certainly helps.

That said I have to say that the casual interest on my feeds towards 200 has been nonexistent compared to 196, 193, 194. It's probably an aberration but Ronda and Conor really brought out the casuals without fault.
