Why Poirier?: McGregor vs. Poirier II

Because Dustin is the n1 contender. Beat Gaethje who beat noone but a washed Tony. So you tell me who else would make for a better fight at lw. Bum post

Because Poirier is the #2 LW contender and should be the #1 contender, this is a huge legacy fight and a defining fight in the narrative of Conor's career. Is he still an elite LW? Can he compete against the current top 5 in 2021?

He hasn't won at lightweight since 2016!

Also Dustin has a recent win over Max Holloway, I'm sure Conor sees that and feels he can kill two birds with one stone here. With the infrequency at which Conor fights, he'll likely never rematch Holloway. So beating Poirier will solidify in some peoples minds that Conor beats prime Max aswell.

This is one of his better matchups in the top 10 and it either gets him the belt or lines him up for a title shot, it's a no brainer. Better than losing to more unknown names down the ladder, or getting hurt against Welterweights.

I suspect this will all backfire though and Dustin will actually win, I think Conor comes into this fight more reckless than normal and less comfortable without the fans. Dustin already has experience dealing with the current pandemic protocols and Conor will gas out or never really get going until it's too late.

Ya know that's a good question. Why is Conor fighting Poirier? The obvious title fight is the Dustin-Justin rematch. Conor should be fighting someone as far away from the title as himself, like RDA or something.

Poirier finished Gaethje and Alvarez and Gaethje was finished by Alvarez. Tony is old and washed up. Poirier did better against Khabib than most.

Why not Poirier?

Dustin is far better than he was.

This is a great fight.

Why?

McGregor already beat Poirier, soundly. Sure the fight was at 145lbs but like I shared, it was a decisive win for McGregor.

Why has he chose Poirier? Is it for obvious reasons: McGregor thinks he can beat him again, easily? Does he believe this is a "guaranteed" win because Poirier will likely want revenge against him whilst attempting to ko the man?

Or is there something else here that I'm missing?
Yes, you're right. That's all there is to it.

Wanderlei koed rampage twice. Every observer knew that rampage had the potential for redeem himself.

Because Gaethje would trash talk Conor and undoubtedly bring up conor's rape investigations, punching old men, and whipping his cock out in a restaurant. That would be bad press for Conor and the UFC at the same time. Dustin is a good boy now, much like how Cowboy was, and will play nice with Conor in the build up. Combine that with the fact that conor already beat Dustin so he'll be confident as fuck going into this fight and you have a winning match up for the UFC.

Dustin's a big name and is coming off a win that was a fight of the year contender . On top of that I'm sure McGregor thinks he'll most likely win and he's not wrong .

Poirier has moved to the top of the division in Conor's absence and Khabibs likely retirement.

If Connor beats Dustin, something Gaethje, Hooker and Max couldn't it places Conor unquestionably at the top of the pyramid and legitimises a fight for the LW title.

Also, behind all this is that that Poirier and his propensity to getting hit often, makes him a sitting duck for Connor, who I think will get Dustin out of there within 2 or 3.
