Why not supplemental oxygen?

This is a thought that pops in my head from time to time. The NFL uses this. The amount of money that goes into sport science in the NFL is second to to maybe only soccer. These guys are looking for every possible advantage for their athletes. Why does the UFC not do this.
How many times have you seen a warrior go out to die on his/her shield after a break because they could not recover in time. Its pointless damage IMO.

It sucks as a hardcore fan that wants to see technical battles instead of fighters getting hittinh a wall and stalling.

The only response I have ever seen against it is it "looks bad". I do not care what it looks like. I care about results. Is there a medical reason to not give MMA athletes supplemental oxygen in 2020?

Because thats incredibly lazy and promotes the need to not actually care about your physical fitness level as u can just recover with oxygen.between rounds....

Fighting is suppose to separate boys from.the men...the skilled from the unskilled ...fit from the fat....

Adding oxygen removes alot of that

alot of the rules are dumb

- marijuana = suspension

- building red blood cells by EPO = suspension
- building red blood cells by using an expensive hypobaric chamber or living in the mountains to increase EPO levels = OK.

- water between rounds = OK
- gatorade or sugary drink between rounds = NO

Oxygen and PEDs let's go let's go. It would lead to better fights, you just have to accept that it's near-superhumans that are fighting but it'll be fun.

Never mandatory. Just an option. And if a guy does legit have asthma and is cleared to fight under the athletic commission why not a medicinal inhaler? Id rather that than someone dying or getting seriously hurt?

I'd rather that if they are that compromised they shouldn't be fighting.

Marijuana should be as it affects your mindset and nerves going into a high stress situation also has pain relieving properties...( talking about pre fight , day of use, out of camp i dont see why not)

Context is important the drug EPO provides way more concentrated results then living in the mountains and hyperbaric chambers...things are banned for a reason...not just cuz

But then should we ban water in between rounds? Leave it to the fighters "natural" ability to recover? I see water and ice therapy and massage therapy and drugs in between rounds. Is adrenaline to stop bleeding not using drugs in your opinion? We already do these things. Why not extra O2? Its not like it destroys the athletes health in sny way.

Interesting point about cut suppression using a gel, adrenaline.

I think they experimented with it in the mid 2000's. From what I remember it was actually making them to light headed. Dont think theres enough time in between rounds. Football players get a lot more time to benefit from it.

They even allowed can oxygen for awhile.

Stopping bleeds in no way enhances the performance of a fighter.

The fighters need water between rounds because they go into the fight almost dry so they don't piss themselves if they get punched in the kidneys.

Icing again is not a performance enhancer, it may ease muscle soreness or cramping or temporarily reduce bruise swelling.

Ban a massage? Really?
