Why isn't there any chilling effect since USADA is around?

I don't really get it. You decided to cheat in the past, well I don't approve it but I get it.
Most people did and the risk/reward ratio seemed to be fine.
Now there is strict and random testing, people are testing positive left and right, including big names, USADA has advanced labs and methods.

The risk/reward ratio seems to be totally unbalanced. It's obviously just not possible anymore to inject whatever you want. Also if there is one sport where you can have a good level of success without inhuman athletecism, it's MMA.

I'm sure the UFC bosses, who where fully aware of how dirty the sport is, thought after an initial stage of positive tests people would just adapt to the new rules. But it doesn't seem to happen. Do they think they won't be caught or is the desire to win so high that they just can't stop? I don't get it.

Must just be more taint in supplements these clean fighters are taking.

That's a very good question. The options I suppose are that the fighters think they won't get caught, aren't very smart, are stuck in their habits, or know that they will fall off immediately without the PED's (we've sure seen it) and choose to risk staying on them.

Let's just wait and see what Jones' substance was. Remember Lyoto and Penn. Or Mendes. Or Romero & Means getting their suspensions shortened. A lot of these flaggings and subsequent suspensions are bullshit. Jones likes to smoke weed and does some lines here and there. Likelihood is there.

You're telling me that guys who think they're the baddest motherfuckers on the planet tend to have some sort of invicibility complex, leading them to think that they can't get caught? Yeah. No shit.

I'm only half serious here. But I'm not completely surprised that there are still some guys using. The confidence/ego/delusion it takes to believe that you can become a world champion cage fighter is pretty powerful stuff, and I'm sure it extends to other areas of their lives.

But what I really think USADA shines a light on is the supplement industry. I used to think "tainted supplement" was the oldest excuse in the book (and in a lot of ways, it still is), but after hearing Novitsky and others talk about it, it really does seem like it's the Wild West when it comes to supplements. There's very little regulation, and fighters need to be very, very careful about what they use.

Ultimately, it's the fighters responsibility to make sure the shit he's taking is clean, but I am certainly more lenient with people who ended up having tainted supplements (like Tim Means) as opposed to straight up testosterone use or what ever.

Yeah there are going to be some really silly looking people if this comes back as something relatively minor

Hubris. They think they can outsmart the test and get away with it, like they've always done before.

It's out of competition testing so recreation drugs like MJ and cocaine are out of the question.

Rules are meant to be broken.

I think Jones stopped the PEDs for the OSP fight. Realized how shitty he felt and knew he wouldn't beat DC without them.

What happened last time with him, then?
What do you mean? The last time he failed a cocaine test out of competition it was revealed that the guy that administered the test screwed up because he wasn't supposed to be testing for it. Jones was considering pursuing legal action but I don't know if he did anything. It was a big mess.

Read about it and you're right. Was a UFC code of conduct violation, not usada. So likely not a substance of that sort. We'll see what it is.

That's ironic because he looked like he was in the best shape of his life against OSP. I don't like Jones at all but what you said makes no sense because he already beat DC before.

They wouldn't test for weed or coke out of competition, so that doesn't hold up. It's going to be PEDs.

Not necessarily. Look at Mendes, Penn or Machida. It could be a bunch of things.

An athlete who has been using PEDs can't just stop using it's too big of a difference mentally and physically. They just use less or less potent stuff

You'd think he would've been popped before or after the OSP fight then, too.
