Why Is Tony Ferguson Still Fighting in UFC?

Him and Dana haven’t always seen eye to eye but I think Dana has a soft spot for the guy. He’s just such a strange dude. It’s like he hoped out of an 80s video game

I think people are being a little harsh. Don’t think 170 is his division. He deserves one last run at 155.

They might actually give him one more, just because of the turn out for him. A lot of people came to this event for him.

I am also surprised why people still pay money to see those shot dudes get destroyed. The UFC also let the Nogs, Hendo and Shogun come to the cage in a mummified state.

He still has to beat Sam Alvey's record of 9 winless fights in a row..

Dana probably felt bad

Maybe keeping him fighting is less expensive than the adverse PR associated with the imminent mental collapse now that he doesn't have anything to fill his days with

Tony needs to retire but for me he started to be medicated after those weird meltdowns in 2019 and it changed him, slowed him down and he stopped having hallucinations in the octagon that would turn him into a fiend.

It is really weird if we think about it, dude goes nuts at home early 2019, steps away, comes back fights Cerrone probably in early stage of medication and a year after while being fully drowned in pills for the head, he fights Justin and gets f*.

Never seen a fighter just flip it like this.

One of the biggest dilemmas in the sport

We know that Tony is a fan favorite and he's not out there getting murdered necessarily. But him winning just always seems more unplausible

This is how I remember his losses:

- Gaethje: A terrible beating that mightve caused a lot of problems. Was a little competitive in the beginning
- Dairush/Oliveira: Outclassed by two upcoming savvy grapplers. Some ominous submission attempts
- Diaz: To me this felt like a classic Tony fight. Battered the hell out of his leg and it wasn't too one sided either way. Got caught in a guilly late going for an unnecessary TD. Was Nates last fight in UFC, did not resign probably because they tried to diss him with Khamzat
- Chandler: I thought Tony was winning until a terrible face kick KO
- Pimblett: Not too eventful of a fight but a clear decision for Paddy. Hurt Tony and had better striking. Tony seemed to outcardio him a little but it didn't matter
- Green: OK I sort of blacked this one out. From my recollection Green did most the battering but if Tony could survive the Arm triangle it could've been an interesting call
- Chiesa: Not much to say. Tony had some crisp leg kicks and was trying to strike but he got taken down pretty easily and RNCed

One thing I'll give him is strength of schedule. All those people are fucking studs. But one shouldn't lose 8 fights in a row. I think there's a giant psychological advantage to all his opponents and he lost his scary aura

I think he probably had something in his contract that prevented them from cutting him on a loss.

The UFC likes to get these old high profile fighters on 10 fight contracts at the end of their career, effectively having them retire in the UFC. But in Tony's case instead of calling it quits when he should he chose to fight out all the fights and they legally had to let him
