i was just wondering why there is no boxing interclubs like there is in Muay Thai. Its seems like it is a good stepping stone for going into the Amateurs and for people who are in a transition stage of losing weight. I apologise if there is something out there like a interclub where its in a controlled environment but it has never been brought to my attention.

My gym networked with the other local gyms and there was an event you could fight on every month if you wanted. Always in shitty town halls or working mens clubs and very strict amateur refs. Get wobbled or get a busted nose and thats that.

They took groups of lads to other gyms for sparring work and even made a trip to cuba.

Pretty low pressure way of getting some ring time in my experience.

Muay Thai was rougher for me, few packed out hostile af interclubs and then sold out 25-30 quid a ticket sports halls.

That's what amateur fights are, bouts between different local clubs.

Clubs regularly spar together and then compete against each other, they already do it.

I fought plenty of interclub bouts before going into the amateurs. Even after I still did them too. We used to have quarterly interclubs ranging all over the state. I thought it was common...?

You mean like a smoker? When I lived back in the Midwest my gym we'd have other gyms come to our place or we would travel to them.

Mostly for this guy named Manny. He was one of our pros who outgrew everyone and had to travel to get good sparring. Either that or Coach had to kick his ass with cardio work before sparring. And still that son of a bitch hit like a mule-kick.

So it happens, though for us it wasn't really structured. I know Phight Club here in Oakland travels around to other gyms, too.

Do you guys live in USA or U.K, im from the uk myself and with the interclub there is no winner so its kind of no pressure for aspiring fighters but a good chance to get ring experience. Yeah like a smoker but for the beginners. I see pro's do it alot we have world class fighters come to are gym such as Martin Murray but he only spars with other pro's.

Where are you based BennyST, my gym does them regularly for Muay thai but not for boxers. I think it might be harder to set up boxing ones simply for the fact that there isnt alot round where i live but there is 6 Muay Thai gyms in the area.

Sounds like something I might do but I have a hard time with sparring as I don't want a beating so defensively I really good but find it hard to mash somebody in ?

seems like an unusually masochistic approach to take to boxing. If you aren't comfortable putting it on someone then definitely don't spar hard or fight, as you won't be able to pull the trigger whereas the other guy will be quite happy to send you on your way to CTE with whatever he can land.

Saying that, for quite a few people, I've seen a mental barrier when they first start where they actually find it difficult to hit another person. It might just be something like that, a habit/mentality that you need to crack. But if you don't then competitive boxing is not for you. But no big deal, it's a big wide world out there and nobody cares or thinks any less of you, do the training if you enjoy it and compete in some other sports if you want.

Gyms spar with other Gyms all the time, and there are plenty of smokers where Gyms compete against eachother... is this what you're asking?? Everybody already does all that stuff

US.

The gym I train at put their own shows on both ami and White collar. It will generally be arranged with a couple of local boxing gyms, there are loads in my area. For the novice fighters they'll go and spar at at couple of these gyms, or they'll come to to us, and they'll be matched up based on sparring so there's no mismatches. It works really well

Hey mate, I'm from Melbourne, Australia. Plenty of boxing gyms around, both urban and suburban, so it's no problem finding gyms to work against.

You right defiintly a mental barrier with me as I don't have a problem Grappling or doing Semi Contact Karate just the bloodlust I don't, shame as my Boxing trainer says I got the tools i.e. defence, power, hand speed and can box both orthodox and southpaw.
