Been wondering this for awhile. Can the media savvy people give me some insight?

Why can't early prelims be merged with normal prelims since they seem to be on the same channel anyway?

I believe its for the live audience more then the TV type.

It depends where you are.

It used to be the case here in the UK the first 2 or 3 were on fight pass, then the next prelims were blacked out online and had to be watched on TV instead.

In the US early prelims are always on Fight Pass.

Cant think of a time since Fight Pass has existed that they werent.

500 plus fighters on the roster. Losing fighters who may be on the way out or newly signed fighters have to fight somewhere. Better non televised with unknown commodities.

Keeps fighters working, around 100 per year give or take.

If a card has a few cancellations the last week it will still be able to fulfill TV and PPV obligations. Add to that one bigger fight on the card gets hurt or whatever a fighter already trained and cutting weight may be able to replace and move up. Think of it as a bench warmer or insurance.

Thanks guys. I wonder how many people actually watch the early prelims.

Bingo

They want ppl to pay for fight pass, a lot of the time they’ll put one decent match up on there and then 1-2 unknowns to keep the hardcore fans paying.

Worked on me.

That ended up being a financial benefit for the UFC. Before FP early prelims were still around. Used to be FB fights.... For FREE

To promote casuals to subscribe to fight pass.

There have been a number of more affordable fighters that are marketable be on FP prelims including Sage Northcutt.

If I'm not mistaken Uriah Faber was one time and I think Lamas as well.

Several okayish names fairly often to get that subscripion from you.
