Why is the word "Met.a" Censored?

I don't mind too much, but it is a pain in the rear when you are trying to use words like "met.aphysics" or "met.al". I'm just curious is all.

It's because people could use HTML M-e-t-a Tags in posts which can be used to cause page-redirects and other kinds of shenanigans.
