This clearly show how much the future bodyguard is sleept on.

We can see 2 phases tho.

Prospect/post ksw Jan where he was the favourite againt tought foes(Jimmy+Corey)
And in the eyes of the bookies he was a derailled prospect that will get a lesson in level against Gus.
Jan lost the fight but won the stand up showing that he wasn't that far removed from the top.

Jan 2.0: after losing to Pat "Making your wife" Cummins his stock was at an all time low. After that point he was an underdog in all of his fights except one bout with the fading Jacare.

He has improved and come into his own later in his career. MMA is like that- there are so many different skills, some guys improve later on with improving all-around skillset.

Unfortunately there's a lot of people who seem to think a great fighter can only be born fully formed, like Athena from the head of Zeus. The idea that fighters can actually learn and improve and grow appears alien to them. Have an early "flop" in front of the UFC lights and they'll never forget or forgive you.

    Good question.
I've never doubted the polish power.
    Great guy, awesome fighter.
I wonder who is next in line to feel the power?

Right it's part of the Sherdogger mantra- MMAth works and fighter's abilities never change.

Not flashy enough. Every thing he does is very basic, but done exceptionally well. Also, people are stubborn and make their minds up on fighters very early and it takes a damn lot for these people to change their minds.

Big fan of Jan and I'm glad he's getting the credit he deserves.

He deeply dissapointed the bookies and rail fans early. The hype train was derrailled and the grudge is stilll there.
The Cummins(in his mouth) loss really put the train to a halt.

After that it took a lot of achievement for the bookies to respect him again.
But they don't seem to accept the idea of Yan 2.0 easily

Jan is like the fighter embodiment of the saying that it's very hard to change a first impression.

Jan kind of reminds me of Semmy Schilt in the sense that he looks really sloppy and unathletic, but in reality is super technical and has top notch fight IQ. Fans will always prefer to look at smooth-looking technique

    This.

Another example on this is Khabib’s herky jerky standup game. Looks sloppy and weird while in reality is highly effective.

If the Santos fight went differently he'd be on a 10 fight win streak right now.
I assume he will be a slight to moderate favorite in the Glover fight though.

Since when is that a bad thing? Jones made goat status by beating up natural MWs; Rashad, Machida, Vitor, Chael, Smith, & Santos

Hes like Glover. Hes old for a fighter. He just turned 38. This is the time when you're starting to hang it up. But times have changed and nutrition etc help fighters fight longer. By 38, Muhammed Ali was done, Tyson was done. Fedor was done at 33.
