Why is Paul Felder even calling fights?

Other fighters such as Daniel Cormier / Dominc Cruz / Tyrion Woodley / Michael Bisping are all multiple time current or former Champions and get to work the desk and commentate sometimes.

Paul Felder hasnt even fought for a title, is a fairly one dimensional kick boxer and has a multiple devasting losses on his record and is close to retirement. All i remember him for is some close fights with Edson Barboza where i cant even remember if he won or lost.

Where did this guy come from? Why do they let him commentate? Why does his nose look like that?

Is his commentary even that good?

I would like to see more entertaining people commentate and work the desk - imagine Jon Jones or Henry Cejudo calling fights? Why not get Frank Mir back in there?

I just think that you have to be a former champion for title contender to get such a comfy gig calling fights.
So people who have never fought like Jon Anik and Joe Rogan can call commentate but an actual fighter can't? Solid logic.

That's a little silly. Plus, we already have plenty of champion commentators like Cormier, Cruz and Bisping.

Paul Felder has been a top 5 and top 10 fighter in the world for a few years now. He has several fights in the UFC. He has a lot of experience and insight. He is not a bad commentator and has actually been getting better at the job.

Now of course I would also love to see Frank Mir back myself but Frank can't do every event, especially if they are running fights every weekend again. That's why they have to have plenty of commentators around, like Felder.

Plus, not all champions can speak as well as Felder on a live broadcast.

Name one heroic act of Stann's. I'm so tired of the "every troop is a hero" bit. Dumb and astoundingly inaccurate.
He served his country and was prepared to do whatever was asked of him, even if it meant putting his life at risk.

Every person who signs up for the military knows they may have to risk their life one day.

He's good on the mic. Who cares if he isn't a legend?

Does anyone want to see fights commentated by Fedor, Chuck, Tito, Dan Henderson, Yoel, Big Nog, Johnny Hendricks, Tim Sylvia, Nick Diaz or BJ Penn?

I dont like him on commentary but I guess I dont dislike him either

Dude who cares, if he's good at commentary why bitching?
I don't even know, I watch with Italian commentary.
OPs point is how and why did Felder get this role. Was he commentating for like LFA before he joined ufc or what. I enjoy his commentary as well but I'd like to know how he got that gig. It's a damn good gig and could provide financial stability when he isn't fighting. Many fighters would love to have that job.

You do realize Joe Rogan is also a commentator and does not have any fight experience in the UFC

Hes like Stann. Just a nice dude who can talk a little better than DC Cruz and even Rogan.

Stann was MUCH better than Paul. Paul has been hit or miss for me. Some nights hes on n it works n sometimes hes part of a trio n ruins it.

Also, all of those guys are much better than Felder. He's on the bottom rung with Fitzgerald.

He kinda sucked last time. Almost as if he lost some confidence from coming back after a loss. I found him to be saying things rather obvious or simply piggy-backing off what DC said.

I dig him as a fighter and he seems a good dude, but he is the worst commentator for the UFC by miles. Also I think TS’s point wasn’t so much that being a champ is a prerequisite for the job... more why choose him over bigger named peep’s who were champs?

Whether or not he's won a championship doesn't have any bearing on him being a good commentator or not.

I like Felder on the mic. He isn't annoying, knows what's going on, and speaks pretty clearly.

He's got a background in acting/theatre as well. I don't think he ever did anything big in that realm, but that probably helps on the line delivery.

I like his commentating.

What a weird random Felder hate thread...

What does being champ have to do with commentating?

Being successful as an athlete and being able to successfully teach, explain or discuss a topic are not the same thing. I’ve seen decorated athletes that were awful coaches and scrubs or even people who never competed in a sport who were great at coaching it. Same would apply for commentating.

Felder does a solid job. Personally if former/current fighters, I thought Brain Stann was exceptional as a comment and you could tell he reallly worked hard and did his research. Dan Hardy also has earned my respect.

He's pretty good, they need to replace Anik with a Bisping a intoxicated if possible.

Spoken like a guy who has never trained a day in his life or had the balls to test himself in a fight.

Imagine disliking someone who excels at both their jobs because of petty shit.

You have to be a sad, miserable person.
