It think it's a lack of self control and bad sportsmanship. Not against the rules, but I would encourage these guys to use their heads a little.
But the ref needs to be on his job as well. Some of these guys go into a berserk mode when they fight.

He’s keyed up and in the zone. He has a ton of adrenaline rushing. He’s not watching it from his lazy boy and a birds eye view. Some of you don’t seem to realize this, but he doesn’t have the luxury of making a wealth thought out choice.
