Why is Karate always the bad guy martial arts?

As people story is more due Japan history, and who tell the story... chinese would do it like that, on other hand you have USA who used Mr.Karate Chuck Norris as the good guy for decades

Do it for videogames and most famous fight game hero is Ryu

Yes I understand, but how long are we going to keep reliving 100 years ago!?

Quite some time yet in China.

The Japanese also don't tend to make many karate films because its actually a relatively recent import, most period martial arts films are about Samurai.

Karate is from Okinawa and Japan appropriated it after they took over the island

Is that really true though?

I mean there are many styles of karate.

Wrong. It was created in a McDojo in Idaho.

My master told me that karate was mixed with Korean art of Taekkyon and Yang Kung Fu which gave birth to Tang Soo Do aka Korean Karate.

I watched the first one and then skipped around, didn't realize they were different people.

<6>

Yeah and they all lost to badly and it was hard to see. Zero wins from Kung Fu guys. This video literally came before YouTube when you had Vimeo and Napster as well Limewire. They were recent kung fu vs karate and no win for Kung Fu and those were removed since they were recent from like 2 or 3 years ago and not yet spread massively around.

I think my work here is done.

I thought these guys are trained in Satsu no Hado or Ansatsuken or something. Like its supposed to be its own style Gouken came up with.

This is true, the first historic and documented martial arts movie in film history is called Orochi. It is a silent film about the samurai. But karate aside, not too many jujitsu movie which is authentically Japanese.

.

Okinawa is the birth place of karate but other styles came after as karate spread to Japan and the world

Shotokan

I think thats just the american booklet.

But it doesnt really matter cause Ansatsuken whatever is just a form of karate in the same way Tai chi Chuan/Wing Chun, etc. etc. are Kung fu. Its just a fictional style.

Ironically Karate was developed in Japan from Chinese influence...Which is hilarious.

That makes sense from a HK film. it portrays the Japanese as people that steal and "pervert" the Kung Fu creating karate.

Isnt Jujistsu supposed to have developed from Qinna too???

It says Antakusten or something. I have the street fighter assassins fist series in my computer and it mentions that Gouken and Akumas master was a practitioner of this assassins art and that this master also had a friend in China in which they exchanged techniques. That and Gouken/Akuma master knew the secret of Hatsu no Hado but chose not to teach because its unhealthy for the mind. But Akuma stole the technique, killed the master and Gouken was angered but chose not to seek revenge.

No mention of shotokan in the storyline. Moves are nothing like shotokan either.

Its in English despite title, Gouken talks about the history and there is no mention of Shotokan or karate:

Yes but that is what it was called for many many years. In all the instruction manuals and god knows what else.I didn't make it up. It's in the link

Fair enough, I have trained in shotokan, kyokushin and Tang Soo Do as far as karate goes. Their style is very similar to Kyokushin in terms of personal experience. Shotokan is very wide stance and the senseis I had were not in to throwing flashy spinning kicks. Kyokushin has a more narrow stance + tons of kicks and volume striking and leg sweeps.

That being said, I have heard the whole Shotokan thing and perhaps the makers of the game designated Shotokan as their style in their bio pic. But I disagree in respect to real life accuracy.

Karate guy in this video was just an all-around better fighter with higher fight IQ.

He saw that the drunken-style kung fu practitioner lacked any semblence of good kicking technique or kick defense and kept him at range with his superior kicking techniques.

On top of that, drunken-style kung fu dude refused to adapt or use a different style of kung fu to deal with the karate kicks. Indicative of having low fight IQ.

How's the ref to tell if he's wobbly, or if it's just a part of his technique. Probably lost some IQ points from repeatedly getting his melon kicked.

Because karate men are bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.

They are always portrayed as evil martial arts. It doesn't even matter if karate man is white or Japanese or other ethnicity. They are always portrayed by evil characters.

Like here:

Respectful in reality:

Common man, karate teaches respect and decency.

They have no respect for Hongo, Akira or Sakaki , Shio.

I am a karate black belt and can confirm that we are all secretly evil. All the talk about respect is just to bamboozle our opponents in order to set them up for the crane kick.
