Why is Chandler regarded as a top fighter?

Keeping the low number next to his name helps justify profitable matchmaking.

The dude is entertaining, so the UFC is marketing him well and putting him in big fights. If it is dishonest, it is dishonest for highly entertaining reasons.

Michael Chandler is a hair away from being the Champ in the UFC. Dude is amazing.

Other fighters want to fight him. Dustin thinks beating him will get him a title shot. Media is pushing him as a top contender and I think Dana regards him as a top fighter at LW too.
Why? I can get Dustin as a top fighter as he really is great. But chandler? Dude is past his prime and he is 2-2 in ufc. Is it because he is entertaining? Gaethje has been doing it for far longer.
It's pretty surprising tbh. Guy is still top 5, with wins over Dan and Tony.
He is past his prime & doesn't use his full skill set. That being said he's still a dangerous fight for anyone even if he's fighting at 50% of what he could be. He has personality, sucks up to Dana & stands and bangs. That's what the UFC & most of the fans want.

He's better than Dustin. Dustin goes life or death with hooker, Chandler squashes him like a bug immediately.
Yea but Dan has been getting his ass beat a lot lately. I think Dustin started that downwards trend by sending Dan to the hospital.

Dan has lost a lot of confidence and hasn't been the same since that beatdown; thus being more prone to losing earlier.

Michael Chandler is a hair away from being the Champ in the UFC. Dude is amazing.
Do you really see him beating Islam though? Chandler would need to catch him early or else he'll get dominated.

He could easily be 4-0 in the UFC right now.

Nobody's blown him out of the water. Even in his clear losses he nearly won.
Yes but having close losses should not make him a top fighter. If he beats Poirier that would change.

His level of competition in the UFC is really high, he also was competitive in his losses. Oliveira may have finished him early in the second but he was close to finishing Oliveira in the first. If I recall correctly it looked like the ref was considering stopping it in the first.

He's legit, he nearly finished Oli and pushed Justin, however I think Dustin gets him

Im not convinced Chandler, Poirier nor Gaethje belong in the top 5 anymore.
I agree people seem to forget about PTKD (Post Traumatic Khabib Disorder) when khabib cucks these fighters they're never ever the same psychologically and they will never fight the same again, so poirier and gaethje are a bit shot now and out of their prime, Mcgregor was sent straight into nutcase territory i wouldnt be surprised if he overdoses or ends up in jail or dead.
Every fighter khabib got his hands on needs some hardcore therapy to stay in the top 5.

I was a Chandler hater when he first came over to the UFC. I couldn’t stand him being thrown into the title picture so quickly. Now though, I got a full fledge man crush on the guy and he has me throwing my panties on stage every single time he performs. The dude is an absolute savage and hasn’t had a single boring second in that cage so far. Explosive striker and wrestler and goes in for the finish every second he’s in there. Is he a bit chinny? Yep and maybe a tad bit overrated.

That being said, the dude is must watch as soon as he steps foot into the cage and that’s more important to me as a fan then wins or losses. The sport needs more Michael Chandlers….

Because the largest demographic of UFC fans absolutely love Gaethje, Chandler, and Poirier. That is literally enough to keep you at the top of the official UFC rankings.
