Why is Chandler regarded as a top fighter?

Why? I can get Dustin as a top fighter as he really is great. But chandler? Dude is past his prime and he is 2-2 in ufc. Is it because he is entertaining? Gaethje has been doing it for far longer.
It's pretty surprising tbh. Guy is still top 5, with wins over Dan and Tony.

I dont ...... and NEVER did. I mean- he was on better side of career at BMMA.
He was gifted Hooker and a t.s from jumpstreet and I'm not saying in hindsight. I posted as soon as match up was signed and said as much.

not UFC, nobody here remembers anything PRIDE, SF, Bellator, etc
 
Hes regarded as one of the best UFC LW's of a declining generation not an awe inspiring fighter. Those two things don't always come together.

Also Charles was the champ and he was totally capable of being in Charles place.

I think he's still a top 5-10 fighter, but he's on the other side of his prime and dropping fast. I think with the right match-making a little luck on his side, he could still be champion one day.

Because he's only had competitive fights with top ranked fighters.

That's always going to be the case with MMA (especially the UFC.) The rankings don't move enough; and they don't fight down far enough in the rankings (outside of title eliminators; and IMO, the Yan/O'Malley was an exception to my contention.)

2-2 only fighting in the top of the division no less.
And he was dangerous even in his losses.

I'm always intrigued by the fact that some fighters can be past their physical prime, but still improving in the wily strategic veteran of the sport aspect of their game which in many cases can be significantly more valuable to their performances.

I wouldn't mind seeing Chandler take a less JBG approach and be a bit more tactical.

There's a reason that Islam doesn't get hit anymore.
