Why is Aldo gassing early all of a sudden?

UFC 200 vs Frankie Edgar was the last time Aldo had good cardio. Against Max he started to gas early. By round 2 you can clearly see him slow down. This fight vs Jeremy, he was slowing down midway before the finish of jist the first round. Jeremy slowed down as well which worked out for Aldo but man....cardio like that in the FW division will not get him back the belt especially against the young guns. If Aldo doesnt get them out of there he will be in trouble.

Aldo looks to be more muscular than he ever was. Is he relying too much on being explosive? Is it the anxiety after getting KO'd? I feel like Aldo of old had the cardio to school dudes for at least 4 rounds. Now he schools them for the first round but then he fades. Its a damn shame because his skills are soooo high level.

In the Edgar fight he looked calm and collected, wasn't wasting his shots. He paced himself very good in that fight.

In the Max fight it seemed like Aldo was really looking for a highlight KO in front of his hometown crowd and he blew his wad early as he was breathing through his mouth in the 2nd rd. 3rd round he had zero head movement and wasn't even slippling at all, he was standing flat footed and exhausted.

I think he is just a bit more muscular these days and is trying to actively KO dudes so putting alot into it.. He was throwing bombs in the pocket, its hard to simply keep that going for any extended time.

Because getting tagged takes a toll on you. You're making it sound that Max just one-shotted him.

He might of been on high anxiety fighting Stephens because he knew if he lost his career was over as a top contender , that could of effected his stamina.

Fight pace in Holloway was huge. Holloway on round 3 in Aldo vs Max 2 had 108 significant strikes. Its hard to fight against opponent with that high volume striking. You see also that when people fight against Cain their are gassing very fast. Holloway has good pressure and very high volume of striking.

A lot of Brazilians fight with their hearts on their sleeves. Guys like McGregor capitalize on that. Cormier said that Holloway had said that to beat Aldo you have to test his ego and it's true.

Aldo was never the guy to go 5 hard rounds. He has 2 rounds of 30-40 strike output in him and the rest he has to manage. The problem vs Max was that he has the output and reach (yes, height and kicking ability factor in) to keep the pressure on Aldo for 4-5 rounds.

Against Stephens, I didn't see Aldo slowing. Look at the final exchange: Stephens looks slow as fuck at that point, while Aldo is still moving in and out with speed in his hands. I think that these days, Aldo is fighting more like a boxer - trying to relax and only explode when needed. No more of that constant bounce and tightness in the shoulders.

Don't think aldo is afraid of getting knocked out at all. Actually think mcgregor and max's knockouts of him have actually led him to be a fighter willing to go out on his shield.

I'm not saying that is a good thing but he he had his chin up in the air and was swinging wildly at times last night. I was waiting for him him to be put asleep before he struck the liver. He's no fear anymore since losing it all.

Reach and the appropriate corresponding strategy are a big factor.

Against Frankie he sat back and countered Frankie as he attempted to get inside. Against Stephens he didn't have the option of sitting back, and was more aggressive than I've ever seen in the UFC, which is always gonna cause a fighter to gas. Holloway is a tall, volume, pressure fighter, who always causes his opponents to gas.

It was implemented the same year AFAIK. He's only feeling the after effects nowadays.
No it was implemented a year before 200. And people were saying Aldo looked softer as early as 194. You haters can't have it both ways.

But he didn't gas last night?

He gassed twice in a row after being 2-0 up against a volume striker who is known for breaking people with volume.

I'm genuinely confused here.

He didn’t gas at all last night. People throw that expression around too often. He might have slowed down a bit after getting tagged by Stephens or after turning it up a notch himself, but he recovered just fine and looked fresh shortly after again. That’s not gassing.

Because Holloway is the best body snatcher in mma and never let Aldo get a break.
