I just visited ABQ and wow is it bad. The percentage of people you see who are either junkies, ex-cons, homeless, or just generally shady AF looking is staggering. It is a very rough place. I came back to my hotel room and some dude was in his car punching his woman. And this wasn’t just one area, on the other side of town it was the same thing.

What is it about the city that breeds this type of person?

Edit: I just found out fentanyl seizures went up 900% in the last year. That’s more than the total of the previous five years combined. That would explain it.

Don't stay at motels. At least you didn't get attacked by a Culebra

Dude, I’m not even talking about the hotel. That was one example. 70% of the people I saw everywhere I went looked dangerous and shady as fuck.

Stop it. Someone told me in the war room that places with lax gun laws are super safe. You are in one of those places. Just walk into a store and buy a gun if you are so afraid.

Even Bugs knew to take a left and get out of Albuquerque.

That reminds me, Schlotzky's used to have a good sandwich called the Albuquerque Turkey.

I've been to University of New Mexico for a conference, and to be honest, my impression of the city wasn't that bad. This was in 2019, so I'm going to assume that not much has significantly changed about the city.

Unique architecture, beautiful landscape (if you are into geology and topography), and friendly people.

My only gripes is that a lot of people would start speaking to me in Spanish because they thought I was Mexican (I'm actually Guyanese) - the cashier at the Duncan Donuts gave me a nasty look when I told her I didn't speak Spanish. I think she thought I was "pretending" not to (which ironically, is something I deal with in Brampton).

I was also really disappointed that the one Mexican restaurant I went to was terrible. I love Mexican food, but it's hard to find a good place in my city - Albuquerque is supposed to have an amazing food scene, and I just happened to pick the one place that was sub-par.

While I wouldn't visit the city for a vacation, I wouldn't object to going back if work or social commitments required me to.

What did you do in either instance when you saw a woman being beaten up?

Had good and bad with ABQ. Did a hundred miles scoping out the BB sites which was neat

Meth

and that’s not even a Breaking Bad reference. ABQ is exceptional for its meth consumption.
