And it comes down to intent.
Movies whose intent is focused on the quality of the overall art, whether it be visual, directorial, or writing, are usually good.
Movies whose intent is on an outside factor, such as ticket sales, or merchandise sale, are usually worse.
A remake is almost always a remake of either a commercially successful movie, a critically successful movie, or one with a cult following.
Therefore the very nature of a remake is that the focus is on capitalizing on the originals popularity, not the quality of the film.
That is my problem with remakes because they are naturally hollow foundations.
