Alright, lets look a logical look at things
Does Jacare deserve a shot? yes
Does Hendo deserve a shot? no
But here's why it all makes sense, just this one time..
MIDDLEWEIGHT CONTENDERS:
Rockhold - just got KO'd and nobody wants to see an immediate rematch
Weidman - injured, plus Bispings already said he should fight Luke first
Romero - suspended (albeit over soon, still needs a recent fight to get back into the spotlight)
Jacare - injured, and recently has the L to romero. Plus hes not a draw
Uriah Hall - coming off a loss, and too green still
Vitor - coming off a big loss, plus he's already had his gift title shots
Tim Kennedy - inactive as fack
Machida - suspended and coming off a loss
Anderson - injured and just got surgery
Alright so whos left?
Mousasi - poor draw with a fight scheduled
Whittaker - poor draw (lets be honest)
Why should Hendo get a shot?
1) He fought on the same card, scoring an incredible comeback KO, so everyone who saw 199 has the 2 performances fresh in their mind
2) He is still a big draw, arguably the most popular american fighter ever.
3) He beat Bisping at UFC 100, another landmark event, after a long TUF season of banter and build-up
4) His win over Bisping is notorious as the best, most brutal KO ever
5) Hendo is 45 years old, and it was up in the air if he retired after his last performance. This is one of those
legendary stories, and he could top Randy Couture and become the oldest champion ever
6) Overwhelmingly positive reactions from Sherdog in the several threads I've seen about this re-match
7) The story, build up and event would be massively successful- plus, the turnaround for this bout could be within the next 2-3 months as both guys are still in good shape
8) Hendo was supposed to get a shot at Jones at UFC 151. He never did, and in a sense, one could say UFC owes him.
9) Bisping has the chance to avenge his shot and continue the momentum of his win with a quick defense
Why doesn't Hendo deserve a shot?
1) He recently lost to Vitor, and is only on a 1 fight win streak
2) He's 45 years old
3) Bisping has improved while Hendo has deteriorated since the last match, and it could be a squash match
TLDR: But lets be honest... Hendo is a legend and everybody wants to see this fight. Normally it wouldn't make sense but, seeing as every viable contender is injured or booked to fight, as well as the aforementioned $marketing$ hype reasons, fuck it lets just do it again. One last bout for Hendo's legacy.
WORST CASE SCENARIO, IT'LL LIKELY BE WITHIN THE NEXT 2-3 MONTHS, AND BY THAT TIME JACARE & ANDY WILL BE HEALED, ROMERO WILL LIKELY HAVE A MATCH BOOKED, WEIDMAN/ROCKHOLD II WILL BE BOOKED, .ETC
People act like Hendo is stealing the Title shot... Jacare will likely get one right after anyways
