There were no standing 8 counts in yesterdays fight, I think it's because of the really heavy gloves, with MMA gloves their shaped to your knuckles so it's easier to connect with that sweet spot instead of just taking thud after thud with 8oz gloves.

-There's a standing count for you to get back to your feet to take more punishment (in some States).
-The punishment you're receiving, the majority of it is going to your brain.
-Gloves are bigger than MMA gloves, so the likelihood of a decision increases. Plus, increasing the chances of brain trauma.

In MMA,

-You can grapple if you're rocked.
-The fight can end a number of different ways including a submission or a quick referee stoppage.
-If you're just covering up (not receiving the punishment), but not improving your position, the fight also ends.
