Why Fedor's name is spelled the way it is?

It's probably old news, but I kinda got the itch to make the topic. It's really interesting to me how Fedor's name is spelled like that, someone probably coined it like that years ago and it stayed.

The thing is, he's got the same first name as Dostoevsky, for example. But their names are spelled differently in English. And Dostoevsky's name is spelled more correctly and closer to the right pronounciation. He's Fyodor, not Fedor. The pronounciation is [ˈfʲɵdər].

Фёдор Is the correct spelling, when translated to English it should be Fyodor to correctly portray the way it Sounds, altho Fedor is still correctly translated, Non Russians won’t understand the way to pronounce it,
its not Fay-Door its Fyo-dor.

It’s just what happens when you take a more complex Alphabet like Cyrillic, and a More complex Grammar like Russian, and you try and translate it into simple English.

I remember back in the day people would try to act smart by saying that Aleksander Emelianenko was the proper spelling. As if that was what was on his birth certificate or something.

Also I think Sherdog Radio still plays a dumb clip from >10 years ago where someone said "feedoor ameeklio" or something and TJ corrects him with "fuhDOOR"

Fedor does, and he decided he wants to spell it that way, or somebody did.
