Why exactly were people so crazy for the Conor/Nate rematch?

I've seen people saying things like "there aren't any fights this big they could replace it with" or "definitely won't be buying if this isn't at UFC 200".

I can only assume this is people making it out to be a bigger deal than it, is in the vein hope that it might sway UFC's decision?? To me this is definitely a take it or leave it fight, I'm sure it would be exciting but it means nothing for the rankings.

I get that this might be the most lucrative matchup the UFC could make, but people are talking like it's the only fight worth seeing?! Is it just Conor fans desperate to see their boy get his revenge as soon as possible? I know a lot of people are keen to see him get beat up again, but I don't think those people would care that much.

Most people don't like immediate rematches for title fights, but an immediate rematch for what was basically an exhibition match, at the wrong weight class, all because the guy lost to a last minute replacement he was supposed to beat, and will likely get beaten by again? Kinda lame everyone's clamoring for it IMO.

Everyone like a good comeback and Conor has a huge fan base, what do you expect.

No one wanted the fight till it was cancelled.

wanted to see the gazelle feast again!

Only Connie's wanted the rematch for their Lord & Savior to save face...

I am curious to see what Conor vs Frankie would have gotten attention wise. To me that would be a great headliner, agreed on the Conor vs Diaz 2 being dumb though.

A good deal of Conor's fans are not fans of MMA or the fight game at all. They are along for the ride and the spectacle. They would also never be fans of Jones, or even Cormier. The same way most fans of Sonnen, or Weidman would never be fans of Silva.

Frankie isn't a needle mover. That fight would have to be on UFC 202/203 with a strong Co-Main I imagine.

It was a fascinating rematch because McGregor would now be coming in a big underdog, and would have been working extremely hard on his cardio and all sorts of other things and Nate Diaz would have had a full camp that possibly would have led to him performing better in the first round when McGregor would still be at his most dangerous.

The story, the drama, the personalities of the fighters... It was the biggest fight in MMA and Dana White and Lorenzo after mocking Holly Holm's management for not waiting for the Ronda rematch pissed tens of millions up the wall and trod over Nate to get at McGregor.

And all you Nate Diaz fans who complained about his pay checks before his last fight suddenly were very quiet when he had the biggest fight of his career snatched from him.

Do Shertards ever read the news from there basements? CONOR..CONOR...CONOR.....everywhere. He's a star all over the news. Thats who people want to see. Contrary to popular belief outside Sherdog most people aren't jealous little bitches.

Well it would be pretty dumb to compain to Dana and co for "snatching" away Nate's payday, considering it was Conor's fault the fight got cancelled...

They weren't. People just eventually accepted it when they it became a reality.

A comeback? You comeback in a fight you are losing, like Anderson Silva vs. Chael, or Scott Smith vs Pete Sell.

This was a stupid and pointless rematch. Huge difference.

I'm not a "shertard", just a UFC fan that knows Conor won't be the first and last word in MMA... since when was being a casual fanboy better than being a true fan of the sport?

I think you're mixing up opinions. Your first quote in speech marks is entirely about the business side of things and it being the most lucrative fight, like you say. Your second quote I've never seen anyone say about this fight, but they do say it about Conor himself. I want Conor on the card. I'd take other Conor fights, but him not being on this historic event at all is a huge letdown.

No one wanted the rematch until Conor pulled out. Then they were outraged.

Which shows their level of stupidity...given that he would only be mauled again.

At least he recognized it before it was too late for him.

Yeah that fight fuckin sucked lol. I definitely didn't want to watch another episode of scrooge mcduck main event over whatever fuckin fights they were putting on that card. Jesus shit, man. I don't like WMMA, but the bantamweight title fight would be a more deserving main event than that.

To your question TS, I don't know. I guess some people just legitimately hate Zuffa so much that they want to see Dana and Lolrenzo be forced to kowtow to someone? Making Conner out to be some sort of SCSA type or whatever lol. Otherwise, it's just the usual, loud stupid little cucks on sherdog.

You comeback from a lose too. Weidman vs Anderson 2, same case.

Conor defending his belt should take priority over "needle moving."
Unless you somehow benefit from needles moving. Are you on the payroll?
