Hot Take Why don't UFC fighters drill wrestling?

Because that's what GSP did and nobody wants to be compared to a greasy French Canadian

Being a greasy Quebecois seems to come with SOME benefits, though...

Always wondered what would happen if you put MVP in Dagestan for 2 years when he was younger. You'd expect him to come out impossible to takedown. His wrestling has improved since he started, and he's probably been drilling it since doing MMA. But it just never seemed to get to the level to stop elite guys like Lawlers TDD did.

His body type and striking style are not conducive to wrestling.

Sure you can always improve something with work but

You aren't lowering his center of gravity.

If you take the bounce out of his feet to stay ready to sprawl you lose the pounce of his attacks. Part of the TKD effectiveness is the blitz. It creates more things to process than you can process while reacting and you get clipped.

Lawler was a slick slick veteran who picked up a lot of tricks and also was fighting the TOP guys from his early 20s. And he had a wrestling base and trained with elite grapplers all along. He was built for tucked chin boxer anti-wrestler fighting. He likes to load up power shots which mean his feet are planted.

He is a tough benchmark to try to emulate.

Robbie did show a little TKD striking in his early UFC return. KOed Bobby somebody.. it was beautiful.

A lot of coaches go too hard and injure athletes. Need to find that good balance of drilling, flow wrestling, live rounds without fucking each other up.

Wrestling is hard, UFC fighters are keyboard warriors that only want to tweet and train boxing which is exciting and fun. Wrestling requires hard work, this soy generation isn't made for that. It's much easier to sit on a chair and talk and play video games the whole day.

They only use the UFC for likes and views...

They do, though? It's the number 1 thing drilled at most mma gyms. I've came across multiple mma fighters with piss poor striking and bjj, but buddy, they can wrestle. It's just that there are levels to this, and the eastern Europeans are leagues ahead of everybody else

Because there's somethings that no matter how hard you work on them you're just not good at
