WHy does Luta Livre get no respect?

Palhares is NOT a LL fighter, ask him directly and he will tell you he is 100% BJJ, true fact.

dont remember who made an interview to him and asked him of much of LL is his leg locks based, he took a very profound or angry or something like that look to him and told him... jiu jitsu porra!

2) LL does not have a problem of being disrespected, but of not being very popular, as in not practiced in many places. The only place where LL is well organized is in Germany.

In France too. In France LL is more well organised than BJJ itself...

Can you be a BB in LL? I thought part of the appeal was no belts or ranks (more like wrestling). Who would award it, anyway? Is there a LL federation or lineage systems of some sort?

You can see all Luta Livre belts (for example, black belts) here:

LUTA LIVRE Submission

Dudes. People like luta livre and catch-wrestling because a lot of their practitioners do cool-looking moves and grapple at a fast, exciting pace.

Obviously, a Daisuke Nakamura or a Pequeno or a Saku is very fun and exciting to watch. Some, some impressionable kids see them and want to emulate them.

Interesting. Although one must now ask, where are all the awesome French and German LL grapplers and do any do MMA?

Actually, there are some pretty good French and German LL grapplers. Nicolas Renier, for example, won the European ADCC trials in pretty spectacular fashion.

And in the FILA world grappling championships, France has been one of the most successful teams, for whatever it might be worth.

Mt. Fucking jiu jitsu works, do it and be quiet.

Fuck you! There are other arts that are taught and were taught before BJJ. There is no problem with people being interested in the history of it, or wanting to talk about the art they are training.

Once again, this isn't the "BJJ FORUM", its the grappling forum, ya dig? So because BJJ borrowed from all other arts we are not supposed to talk about other arts?

GTFO!

In regards to this thread, Pual Harris's background is more of a BJJ fighter than a Luta Livre fighter even though he is a leg locking machine!

damn this renier dude looks good...

wounder if american catch is very differnt from Luta livre, I know luta livre doesnt have pins in its rules, also I would guess that even if is not as much as bjj, they still focus much more on guard work than CCAC... I know we did drill quite a bit of half guard in the seminar...

Palhares said at a seminar his game was from bjj not luta livre, but there is no way with wrestling and leg locks like he has he's just done bjj i'd be very interested to know his full training background.

he trains at btt that`s why he has great wrestling and leg locks...

Who else out of there has that type of game?

Murilo, Arona, Filho, Milton Viera, Fabiano Sherner, Marcello Salazar, just off the top of my head...

Murilo and Bebe were the ones to teach Toko his leg locks. Ive trained under Murilo many times, and have a thing for asking a shit ton of questions.

I thought BJJ and LL communities had pretty much bonded and come together now. There will be a few quirks here and there, but the differences now are mostly lineage based.

Also some people like other arts because they might have cultural significance and represent a portion of history that shouldn't be forgotten. Plus some people just don't like training in a Gi, nor see a necessity to (even if qualities of Gi training can be advantageous, but not necessarily unique.)

People can be original you know. Not that I have anything against LL, but my bottom game is extremely heelhook heavy and I've never trained any catch or LL.

This was my point in asking him. I don't think its because of BTT as much as its just what he adapted his game around. I was just wondering if there were some other guys there that were up and coming and similar in style, as a way of showing, its a trend at BTT.
