Why does hardly anyone use the leg sweep?

Way too telegraphed.

Only time it would work if it was a a properly timed counter, but the risks far outweighs the reward.

More effective to throw a leg kick.

Seems to be a technique that could be highly effective, especially for grapplers (leg sweep to roll to strangle choke). The leg sweep for those who don't know:

Now, the guy in this video has well-defined glutes, so that may be why he's so good at doing leg sweeps. I'm not sure if that's why UFC fighters don't use them, maybe they don't have the musculature to do an effective sweep. Tony doesn't seem to have a problem using them, however:

This guy also landed one on Wonderboy.

Might be a good technique for women since they often struggle to land a TD due to weakness. What do you guys think? Why's this so underutilized?

Neither of your real fight examples were particularly effective.
They seem similar to most judo throws in MMA in that the person swept or thrown usually instantly pops back up.

With a Judo throw ie a Hip toss you need to follow them down to take full advantage of it. Ie see Belcher doing it and Rousey.

I'd like to see more Muay Thai sweeps in MMA but the ability to grapple makes it a high risk move.

I think it is futile in MMA, since the opponent can stand back up before you complete the sweep and capitalize.
Nice for looks, maybe good for points, but ineffective if you want to be at the top of your opponent when he goes down.

Do you guys even play fighting games bro?? Sweep should obviously be a staple of every fighter's toolkit.

Too dangerous to leaglize my man! Dana White aint tryna change the name to the Ultimate Leg Sweeping Championship. Once legalized every MMA fighter on the face of this earth would seek the clear path to victory via spamming the leg sweep. It would basically come down to who could get the first sweep in.

You risk giving up your back if the leg sweep isn't effective which makes it a bit risky

TFerg did a forward sweep, didn't give up his back

I don't live Wmma but relatively speaking(division wise) some women are far stronger than their male counterpart.
Very few men are as strong as Shev or Andrade

If I leg sweeped Shevchenko and rolled on top of her, I'd just lay there in guard and I'm pretty sure she wouldn't be able to get out, especially if I got the underhooks on her legs.

I meant it relative to her division.
Shev is far stronger than the average 125 WMMA fighter
Where Moreno for example is just stronger than the average 125er

most people who train ufc cant spinning sweep back to position by theirselves yet, so theyre still training.

also, his pop and hit setup might get mma banned for being too violent
