Why does Ferguson kick a steel pipe?

When Dan Miragliotta used to train me back in the 90’s, he told me how he and a few intense martial arts friends, deliberately broke their knuckles by punching a brick as hard as they could. Then they would move the broken bone around so it wouldn’t heal normally and create a bony knuckle. Crazy stuff.

Anyone who knows Dan, knows this is true. All you have to do is look at his feet and toes.

Kung Fu guys do the same thing with their heads

Imagine a head school trained Tito's GNP.

It looks cool

Look I use to kickbox and every coach I had always said you can deaden the nerves in your shin/feet just by simply kicking a long heavy bag. Just kick it towards the bottom where all the packing has hardened. There is no fast route to this.

Tony should be drilling kicks as he needs to work on his technique like a lot of mma guys need.

There is no explanation ordinary humans or even we sherdoggers are able to comprehend when it comes to the mysterious behavioral patterns of Tony Ferguson.

Maybe you should resort to asking easier to answer questions TS, for example why is the universe the way it is or something like that.

That pipe kicking shit was from years ago. Prove to us that he still kicks like that.

Change the title to "Why DID Ferguson kick a steel pipe".

To kill the nerves in his shin and make it harder so it both hurts him less and his opponent more. Kicking hard shit isn’t Just a tony thing.
Lots of people do it. To be fair I dunno if others use pipes. That’s why though.
Traditional muaythai fighters kick palm trees, but they don't kick poplar trees because they are not stupid. Palm trees are comparatively soft.

Kicking a bag is understandable, but kicking a steel pipe is not.

thats crazy. im all for hardening but... thats crazy

Same reason bare knuckle karate fighters used to practice punching hard wood boards and things like bricks. To harden their knuckles to make them do more damage.
Some punched steel 1000 times a day.
