Ive never understood this, most people that train in any discipline usually hate seeing someone wearing a TapouT sweater/shirt/shorts etc. Especially people who have learned any kind of jiujitsu. Personally I wear my TapouT hoodie just about everywhere and have trained in BJJ for about a year.

Tapout has sponsored the start of many of the fighters we love today and I love the obvious reference to Jiujitsu in their brand name?

I guess my question is in the title, why does everyone hate people wearing tapout?

lol im expecting the usual "because they suck" but if anyone has an intelligent reason or opinions Id like to hear them.

I get annoyed when I see people who don't train wearing it, and thinking they're all hard because they've seen a few UFC events.

lol yea but you can usually spot the losers, warrior shorts, tapout shirt, ufc hat. Walking around in flip flops..............

but why hate the whole brand?

Exactly what Jersey Trash said. It became a way for the weekend warrior couch potato who watched UFC to identify with fighting. But a lot of those folks seem to have an arrogance about them. I like the Cowboys and Rangers, but it doesn't mean I play for them. But I still don't act like a tough guy wearing their products.

Plus TapOut started somewhat catering to these folks, making their gear for sale at Champs Sports and whatnot.

I don't think anybody can doubt what they did for the sport or put into up and coming fighters. But the brand itself just got so consumed by the audience, that many of the actual participants were put off by it.

So do you think that the "TapouT" image now represents the fans more than the sport? That would make sense, people dont see it and think of someone training they see the brand and think "oh yea that card is tonight, better go buy chips"

This nails perfectly! The first time i ever saw a tapout shirt on a fighter i tried my best to find one to buy. I tried to find them locally because I wanted to try one on and not just order from the web. i thought it was the coolest thing. Then all of a sudden i saw everyone wearing it! That really reduced my desire to try and find one. By the time i found one to purchase i really had no desire to wear it so i just kinda laughed and passed on it. Now it's to the point where if someone is wearing tapout you sort of expect them to just be a bear drinking meathead :icon_lol: Obviously that isn't always the case, but you get my point. The commercialism of tapout and the UFC in general has actually driven me to boredom of the UFC. It's been about 2 years since i have watched a complete UFC and the last single match i have watched was Couture and Lezner. BJJ tourney matches are much more fun to watch, but i digress. :D

how many people have you met wearing tapout or affliction t-shirts that weren't giant douchebags?

I don't associate TapouT with assholes just because a lot of people who wear the brand are tough guy wannabes.

However, I do associate TapouT with assholes just because almost every design is tailor made for an asshole.

Case in point:
method=get&rs=40&q=75&x=-15&y=-3&w=293&h=349&ro=0&s=01F3B4BD-19B9-EECA-28938540F26B5A3A.jpg

If you are caught wearing that shirt, you may not actually be an asshole in real life, but you are without a doubt wearing an asshole's uniform.

Back in the day they mostly sponsored fighters I didn't like.
And the biggest reason why I dont like Tapout is because they make ugly clothing imo.

I try and buy mma shirts of camps I have respect for: American Top Team, Team Quest, BTT, When I get finished with my current job I hope to be training full time in MMA

Another example:

method=get&rs=50&q=75&x=-12&y=-2&w=293&h=349&ro=0&s=91317691-19B9-EECA-28FF220725157D45.jpg

And it's corresponding description from the TapouT site:

"'Angst' is a special limited edition tee. The TapouT logo is glowing with heat as a demon has it in the middle of its jaws. The Demon has a skeleton style dace with glowing eyes. Fire and blazing hot ambers surround the design of the shirt . Underneath the jaw of the demon is a banner that says 'Expression of Combat.'"

It's not possible to wear that and be cool at the same time.

Cause I dont like to

Unless Im efightin

I don't even know why I hate them, I used to like them before I trained now its just a cliche. I guess its the symbol of MMA and jiu jitsu becoming mainstream which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Its just that, that kind of clothing usually attracts asshats.

because it makes you look like an asshat.

Does not make you a tough guy.

It represents nothing positive, couple with the "tapout crew" what is there to like...

I remember hearing "mask" tell a story of how they got started, saying something to the effect "tapout means i'm gonna step off in your a$$"

I thought the whole thing was an act until I saw the TV show and those classless clowns talk smack about a fighters sister/cousin while they are all in the room together. Making one childish reference about her breasts after another. (it was the episode with jeff curans cousin)

The majority of BJJ black belts are humble grounded people, I would never think of marcelo garcia saying "i'm gonna step off in your ass"

Tapout shirts are great! I don't know what you're talking about- it informs everyone around those who wear it instructions about how to disable the wearer when he starts acting all "Nick Diaz-ish"-

Now Affliction t-shirts- those are TOTALLY different...

lots of posers weat them.

also, has that stupid mask guy been dead long enough that we can say how stupid that friggin face paint was.

you got the other guy trying to be a black guy with a afro and another trying to be some mexican low rider gangsta.

I mean seriously, how is this any less offensive than some guy wearing black facepaint in the 30s?

We've gone over just about everything wrong with Tapout except just how ugly that logo is. God I hate that company. The Affliction shirts are also pretty stupid but at least they're TRYING to make them look cool.

P.S. Anybody with anything to do with that mask jackass as their avator or sig is a complete tool unless you were actually friends with him. I'm still pissed off that that piece of shit got a memorial spot on a fight night but there was little to no mention of Helio Gracie's death. And before someone says some dumb shit about how Tapout really helped the sport I'm pretty sure BJJ did a tad bit more.
