Why does BJ Penn still live with his mom? I don't want to sound like a dick, but it seems strange at 46 years old. After his career, I imagine he made a decent amount of money. I understand he had a wife and kids as well. Does anyone know more about his story? His situation seems strange but sad at the same time.

Sometimes you have someone at home who desperately needs round the clock care and support for health reasons. In this case, it's BJ.

On a more serious note, the idea that people should all have their own houses outside of family, or hell even just the "nuclear" family is a pretty singular and recent idea. Lots of cultures are much more familial based

Well he's certifiably crazy so I imagine he hasn't made the best decisions over the past 10 years.

Plus whatever millions he made can be quickly depleted in a place like Hawaii

Here, it's very common for people in their 30s to still live with their parents. Many even build on the same land as their parents' house since average incomes are very low. BJ Penn's situation caught my attention because he's American, and I know this isn't common in their culture.

How do you know he does? Does he explicitly state that in the video? As far as I remember he it just had some clips of her doing daily activities, he could simply be visiting.

Hawaiian's different, I think, what with the Polynesian

So mom can claim him as her handicapped caretaker tax exemption ?
