Why can't our government place tariffs on countries that support sweat shops and terrible labour practices. Only lifting tariffs when it's proven the people of that country are given a livable wage?

How then will the west profit from all the cheap labour?

The iPhones will all be gone then. Once that happens, who will pretend to care about kids in the third world, and how will they communicate their faux humanitarianism? Words are cheap and look good, while voting with your wallet is costly and doesn't net you fanfare. This isn't happening because most who claim to want it don't *really* want it - they want the SJWfeelz that are warm and fuzzy.

Like even just a livable wage in one of those 3rd world countries wouldn't be much.

Thats literally where jordans, old navy/banana republic/gap and much manufactoring is done now...

If not just for labor laws, but environmental as well.

comes down to how much more are you willing to pay for products manufactured there?

Citizens have not been able to muster any defense to these policies so the lobby groups get their way.

People just see low prices and vote with their pennies.

Step 1) human rights
Step 2) ?????????????
Step 3) profits

To quote Deltron 3030.....

"Mass production has always been number 1, human rights' come in 100th place".

Lol @ the idea that anyone who actually cares about other people, being "fake".

You live in a sad, sad world my friend.

Or have subsidies to pay for American manufacturing

Because most of the money is in the hands of very few people and they prefer profits over your welfare.
Or, in other words, the simple answer is greed.

So what do we do about the US since they don´t have a livable minimum wage

because goods from such traditional countries would be made elsewhere and be more expensive. Most people want stuff as cheap as possible. Look no further than walmart

Because people are full of it. People want foreign nations to raise their wages. They don't want to raise our minimum wage. They want wage protection from immigrant workers. And they still want cheap products.

So what happens when we put these big tariffs on imports and now these foreign factories shut down. Do we think these foreign employees are now in a better situation? On top of it, we now can't afford our smart phone. Who wins there?
