Come on you are a professional and you still want to take heavier brain shots and be way more susceptible to cuts which can then be a reappearing problem in your career.

Charles Oliveira gets into a clash of heads this close to his fight and loses out on millions of dollars because he’s too macho to wear headgear. If you want to be all Chute boxing style fine but how about during training camp put on some headgear to at least protect from cuts.

Even if you don’t want to the entire camp how about once you’re past the point of being able to heal in time (couple weeks) throw on some headgear. No one is going to think less of you so your fragile ego will survive.

mitigated risks = less interesting to fans (me included)

I wore wresting headgear grappling once, I got tapped by a guy who was a lower belt than me. Blamed the headgear, never wore it again.

headgear sucks, except to protect cuts.

-increases brain trauma
-reduces visibility
-distracting
-alters range

can throw off your game, and could affect some subtleties like range management if you're wearing it during camp, and then take it off for the fight
Makes your head a bigger target as well
