Why do some fans not want fighters to get paid more?

Don't care. They should try to get as much money as they can get. If they don't like it, they can quit and go do something else.

I don't understand why so many fans get so invested in how much the fighters make. Do you think they give a shit how much you make? you think they are going to take that extra money and donate it to you?

It's none of my business how much another adult makes.

Cocaine… look what happens when they get paid too much

Lol @ comparing ufc fighters who do extremely specialized contract work vs low skilled hourly labor.

meanwhile, nba player salaries continue to rise year over year, tickets prices have gone up, and people still go to the games. These guys are not to be compared to normal workers, because they are professional athletes.

Also, the responses in this thread prove my OP, why are some of you straight up against the notion of higher fighter pay, and when someone brings it up, you get uncomfortable and throw a fit.

a) Who threw a fit?
b) Did you post looking for a discussion or did you only want responses from people who agreed with you?

To be clear, I'm not against higher fighter pay. I just don't think about it much.

Most fans agree that a higher proportion of the revenue should go to fighters, like in boxing.

But I think this revenue should go to the higher tier fighters. Sport is a meritocracy and people buy PPVs based on fighters that have followings or generate interest.

If you're on the undercard, then you should aspire to that and work up to it

They are insecure and weak "followers" who worship (perceived) power and strength. They view Dana as such a "leader" and don't want to risk upsetting him. Paying the fighters more represents an erosion to Dana's authority.

The only potential downside I see with fighters getting paid more is they might be less active, they will be more willing to sit out longer waiting for favorable matchups

That said I still wish they get paid more

Fighters getting paid more means less motivation to fight. It is in fans interest to want fighters to starve.

I was not comparing anything, I responded directly to a comment about minimum wage.

No one is against higher fighter pay, this was repeated many times in this thread. No one is throwing a fit. Do the replies on the thread not fit your narrative? Are you looking for an issue that does not exist? The organizations that paid more, ie. Strikeforce, failed.....

As a fan, fighters will take less risks, duck/price themselves out & fight way less often. Conor McGregor, Francis Ngannou, Jon Jones. & Boxing
