Why do sherdoggers praise NFL and NBA guys for being "A level athletes"

Granted a 6'3 fighter can't run as fast as an NFL player, but i don't think the NFL can even do a double leg.

There is no such thing as an A level athletes. You can be born with some attributes. For exemple for mma (long limbs and natural explosiveness) but if you're not skilled at all you will get merked.
Double legs are about explosion and technique lol.... have you ever played football? You know how a technical tackle is made?

But the nfl pays less than the nba,mlb and nhl and probably epl
I don't know that much about team sports to know how much everyone makes but I'm pretty sure they still make a lot and personal preference is still going to come into play. I know a lot of people who love hockey because they grew up watching it with their fathers and started playing at a young age because of that. Still the highest payed athletes get the most attention.

The "lack of A-Level athletes in MMA" is a myth. The term is usually used to describe giant dudes who are coordinated and fast, I.e. NBA and NFL players. The problem is, they would only represent the heavyweight division. In lighter weight classes, your top guys tend to be as genetically blessed as you could hope for. And even considering that, you have to add in years and years spent training different disciplines to be a complete and solid fighter.

The A level athlete sentiment on here is a myth. NFL and NBA players get overrated enormously, don't even get me started on the mlb and nhl. So many of these guys aren't capable of keeping up with pro fighters, fighting is on a different level of competition than games.

NHL requires crazy cardio. You have no idea. Most fighters probably can't keep up with the cardio of soccer, NHL and NBA players.

NFL players are C-Level athletes if we're talking strictly dollars.

MLB has no salary cap, guaranteed contracts, long player careers, not CTE, etc.

Why on earth would anyone choose the NFL over MLB?

These dudes can't fight. They can ice skate and throw haymakers. Throw either of these guys in the octagon with LeBron and see what happens.

Cant compare them in retrospect to the sports they play. Fighters are trained to fight , basketball players to play basketball and so on and so forth. If you put all these guys into a general athletic competition. Who can run the fastest, jump the highest, farthest, most agile relevant to their size, these "a level atheltes" likely come out on top.

yes, you're right, MLB players do make more, and you've hit the jackpot if you make to the big leagues. Literally the easiest training camps in all of sports and most positions sit in the dugout chewing tobacco for 90% of the game while taking home millions. But don't mistake them for athletes. While there may be brief spurts of athleticism displayed [outfielders chasing a fly ball or player stealing a base], it is closer to a skill based game like golf, darts or pro starcraft.

I think this whole A level athlete thing is mma fans secretly believing their sport is inferior.

Can't forget the great Canadian game of Hockey (Ice hockey to brits), it's a grueling sport among the top echelon of A level athletes.

Only ones I've ever seen disagree are Americans, as they prefer their sports over a Canadian sport and league that just happens to be popular in their country, and black people which is understandable since they tend to not be that elite at hockey, and are not well represented.
But Americans have more hockey teams than Canada. Weird, no ?

I guess this thread is proof that sports fans don't care about PEDs and are more than happy to ignore the use of them...

Soccer was created by European ladies to keep their husbands out of the kitchen while they were cooking.

6'8'' is a bit of an exaggeration, but Jimmy Graham, Rob Gronkowski, Martellus Bennet, Cam Newton. They are between 6'5'' and 6'7'', and that's just from typing in "Rob Gronkowski 40 time" in google.
no doubt in my mind that mark Hunt would lay Gronk out

for the record fighting isn't about being an explosive/athletic/big/tall, the best punchers use volume an endurance. fighting is a endurance sport. a long distance runner would have better success as a fighter than a fucking football player. unfortunately we have very few heavyweights with good endurance so they compensate with trying to be as big and strong as possible. we have cain who is probably the best endurance heavyweight in the division and he ran through all the monsters

I really don't understand the obsession so many people have with athleticism. I can appreciate's an athletic display with style and intelligence behind it, practiced coordination among a team, or even, to some degree, be impressed by a physical feat, But to go completely nut-hugger mode for their NFL combine stats or how far they can jump or whatever just seems unfathomable to me.

If that shit is so impressive, why don't you go to the zoo and go drool over how fast cheetahs run and how strong gorillas are or w/e. Taking that argument a step further and a machine is capable of outperforming a human or an animal an nearly any task except those related to advanced thought and reasoning.

If you stick a cheetah in the Octagon with an MMA fighter, I'm taking the cheetah every time.

Not weird no. The NHL is actually a Canadian league. It expanded into the U.S., and because of the massive population and currency strength difference, and the push of the league to popularize the NHL and hockey in general in the U.S., the U.S. having more teams is completely logical and understandable. Americans that know the NHL is a Canadian league and that Hockey is a Canadian sport and are overly patriotic will tend to shy away from the sport and/or view it in a negative way compared to their own sports, due to bias, which is also understandable (not all U.S. citizens care about nationalism though, a lot don't care and just love a great sport, can't blame em).

I'm sure he would, as would damn near any other MMA fighter. TS asked why Sherdoggers looked at other sports stars as "A level", I just responded that it's because of the size and the speed of some of those freaks of nature. Then someone asked me to give specific examples. I don't think an NFL player could just go become a successful fighter, but I think if they had the same amount training as someone that isn't anywhere near athletic, they would probably do pretty damn good. And yea I know that they could be super athletic and still have glass jaws.

I added to my response in a 2nd post

Yea I still think that with the athletic superiority, if they geared their training towards MMA, or if they had been doing wrestling their whole lives, their cardio would be top notch.
